Arranging and Rearranging

I pulled out the measuring tape and some did some figuring. I put painter's tape on the carpet for the size of the units and moved them around until I had a workable position for the three key units - the sewing cabinet, the ironing board, and the cutting table.

I moved the rulers to the right of the cutting table and placed the ironing board in an "L" shape next to the cutting table. The ironing board buts up next to the closet door and overlaps the cutting table where the rulers are stored. That leaves me with lots of room to handle fabric and to cut comfortably. The ironing board is accessible from both sides which will allow me to iron large pieces of backing fabric and quilt tops.

All the doors in the apartment are 36 inches wide. (note the opening behind the open closet door - that's a bathroom, and next to it is a door that opens into the living room. Those two doors make that wall unusable for anything else.)
Once I had the furniture rearranged, some of my sewing mojo returned.
Looks like a nice fix. I love that closet (envious). Glad your mojo has returned!
ReplyDeleteOh that is soooo much better. Too often we forget we don't have to have everything next to a wall and the benefit of being able to walk around it is wonderful.

ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely space for sewing. I wish I had a designated room for it. All my rooms are so small that even if I had a whole one it would be a squeeze. Now it all lives in the dining room since we never use it anymore anyway.
ReplyDeleteI like the "L" arrangement. It gives you work space that isn't facing a wall. There's nothing quite like getting your creative space organized to get the urge to create again.

So pleased you have come up with an arrangement that works for you. Its not always easy in the beginning to see how to fit everything in, but you persevered and now are ready to start stitching again.

ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great arrangement. With sewing, there are a lot of parts, with the machine, the cutting and ironing. I'm sure you will be a lot more inspired now!
