Special Request & a Gift

pair of baby socks and a hat February 2019 Many of you might remember the post about my great-niece's special request for knit slippers/footies.  Since the baby shower is this Saturday, I thought I would surprise her with some items for the baby (he's due in March). It was fun to knit the tiny socks and then make a matching hat. baby socks and hat with matching footies for my great-niece February 2019 I hope Stephanie will share a photo of both of them wearing their footwear/hat.

Adding the Trim

Image
knitting an i-cord on Stephanie's slippers January 2019 Stephanie's slippers are nearly finished: I just need to knit the attached i-cord around the edge. It's a slow process, but the result is wonderful. The i-cord gives the slippers a polished look. If the teal yarn looks familiar, it's because it's the yarn I used to repair my nephew's sweater/jacket last month. It feels good to be knitting again.

Special Request

Alegria (A9089 Huarache) Manos Del Uruguay In early December, my great-niece asked me to knit her a pair of low-cut slippers. To make sure I knew what she wanted, I did a quick search on Ravelry, and soon I understood that she wanted some "footie" slippers. I found a lot of patterns on Ravelry, but liked the Travel Slippers  the best. The i-cord edging should keep the slipper snug on the foot. I borrowed the book through the inter-library loan program. I was impressed with the variety of slipper patterns in the book. The Travel Slippers are knit with sock weight yarn of which I seem to have an abundance. I asked Stephanie if she liked the colors in the Alegria yarn, and her response was, "Yes!!!"  The slippers are knit flat and seamed at the heel and toe. An i-cord is then knit on the foot opening. Travel Slipper in progress January 2019 I'm disappointed that the bright-colored yarn looks somewhat muddy in the knit fabric.

Preparing Diversions

Image
six knitting projects cast on and started June 2017 Last week, I prepared several knitting "kits": shawls, cowls, and house socks to work on while recovering from a total knee replacement later this month. Perhaps I will not feel like knitting, but these projects are cast on and ready should I want a diversion. I chose easy and intermediate patterns and may even fall back knitting simple dishcloths. My iPad and Kindle are loaded with audio books and ebooks, and I purchased a few word search pads from the Dollar Store. I've added some movies and documentaries to my Netflix account. A jigsaw puzzle is handy, and after a few weeks of recuperation, I'll probably feel like working on it, too. I will not be driving for six - eight weeks; thus, I'll be sticking close to home other than catching a ride to physical therapy appointments. These diversions and projects should keep me from getting cabin fever.
