Kunterbunt

Image
June 2022 “Kunterbunt” #565 is the name of the colorway on the Trekking XXL label. Curious, I typed the word in a German translator: it means “jumble,” “motley,” “varied,” or “multicolored” — all fit the yarn well. As I knit on the socks, the colors and striping became more appealing to me. Matching the socks took just a bit maneuvering to find the correct color change for the cast on edge.  This pair will be a gift.

Happy Stripes - completed

Happy Stripes December 2021 This fraternal pair was finished Friday afternoon, and it is the last knit project of 2021.  I really enjoyed knitting these socks. The stripes and colors make me happy: they remind me of rugby shirts.

An Afternoon of Multi-tasking

Image
an afternoon of multi-tasking December 2021 Bonnie called Monday and asked if I would be available to be a substitute receptionist yesterday. I told her my schedule was open. Since the center has cut back on activities due to COVID, it was a quiet afternoon. I answered the phone, took messages, and transferred calls. The prospect of having this pair finished by the end of the year looks promising.

I have never knit with this yarn before, so the socks are somewhat of an experiment.  This sock yarn is more of a fine (light) fingering weight than most of the sock yarn that I have in my stash. The strand is often plied with two colors which creates the gradual color changes. I love the dark rose and gold, but the orange and forest green don't really appeal to me in this ball of yarn. I doubt the socks will be a matching pair, but that doesn't usually matter that much to me.  This color way is Great Barrier Reef #122 The yarn knits well and creates a nice fabric with only a bit of splitting. Since it contains 80% Superwash wool and 20% nylon, the socks should wash and wear well. The price was very reasonable ($13.50) for a 100 gram ball - 437 yards. I hope the yarn does not pill or bloom after washing, as that is the ultimate test of an ...
