Pinwheel Puzzle Progress

Image
HSTs ready to become pinwheels September 2020 I found some neutral fabrics in my stash that would work with the kit fabrics. I also managed to squeeze six more squares out of each of the kit fabric scraps which allows me to make twelve more blocks. Last week I searched my stash for Civil War reproduction fabrics that will work for making six additional blocks. eighteen Pinwheel Puzzle blocks September 2020 The HSTs in the basket shown above will add six blocks to the 18 blocks already finished. Hopefully, I can find enough fabrics in my stash to bring the block count up to thirty which should make a nice lap-sized quilt.  If the pattern hadn't had so many errors, and if I hadn't cut all the pieces before I discovered the errors, the quilt would have been larger.

Failure to Communicate

Image
August 2020 About five years ago, I purchased a quilt kit - pattern, fabric for the blocks, border, binding, and backing. I rarely purchase kits, but it was a good deal, and I liked the pattern.  Fast forward to 2020 . . . it was time to cut the fabric and begin the quilt. I followed the cutting directions for the blocks (I don't cut borders until the blocks are finished) and began sewing one of the blocks.  Hmmm, something was definitely wrong. I checked the pattern again and again. Had I cut the wrong pieces (the pattern had directions for two different sizes - a table topper and a quilt)? No, the pieces were cut and sewn correctly, but the pinwheels were MUCH larger than the other block pieces.  Not much I could do at this point - no extra fabric because it was a kit - other than cut the pinwheels to the correct size.  What a waste of fabric! * I checked for an errata, and none seems to be available.

Quilt of Valor UFO

Image
blocks and fabric donated by Pat S. October 2017 Pat S. from Virginia sent me a quilt UFO (unfinished object) that is destined to become a Quilt of Valor. The blocks are paper-pieced and all finished. Two rows are sashed and sewn, but I need to remove the paper from the back, add sashing to the rest of the blocks and add a border or two (Pat included extra yardage) to meet the QOV size requirements. Thank you, Pat for allowing me to complete your project, which will bring comfort to a veteran.

Cabin Fever

Image
Cabin Fever 67 x 83 Since the blocks for this quilt were made while staying in a cabin in the Big Horn Mountains, I decided to name it Cabin Fever . Previous posts about this quilt can be found here , here , and here . Cabin Fever was made from a kit I found in the Clearance Room at Sheep Camp Quilts at 50% off several years ago. I paid $33.50 for the complete kit (fabric for the top, the binding, AND the backing). The shop owner was practically giving the kit away at the clearance price: the backing fabric alone would cost over $50 if the yardage was $10 a yard, which many fabrics were at that time. My points are not perfect, and some pieces don't align perfectly; however, the quilt captures the memories of a Sisters' Sew-in perfectly. The quilt pattern is free online - Magic Pinwheels by Karen Snyder.
