Dancing Ribbons

Image
Dancing Ribbons Western Region Oddball Baby Blanket started March 2014 Dancing Ribbons was introduced to the Oddball group last week by the coordinator. It will be knit in garter stitch, and each four-inch section will have four stripes of color. I thought it would be a great way to utilize small balls of yarn that seem to accumulate in every knitter's basket. I am taking a break from the group for the summer, so I will be watching the Oddball forum on Ravelry to check the progress of the last four blankets I started. Update : August 1, 2014

Special Deliveries

Image
Special Delivery - It's a Boy West Coast Oddball Baby Blanket started February 2014 Special Delivery - It's a Girl West Coast Oddball Baby Blanket started February 2014 I think the group coordinator did a great job of naming the blankets that I started in February. Both of these blankets will be knit in stockinette with a garter border with alternating grey stripes alternating with either pink or blue stripes. The group hasn't knit a blanket like this before, so I am anxious to see the result. Update : August 31, 2014

Be Mine

Image
Be Mine Western Region Oddball Baby Blanket started January 2014 It has been ages since I worked on an Oddball blanket. The once prolific group has slowed down considerably since one member stalled several blankets for over six months. Since I have now finished the blankets for which I volunteered to knit, I am going to take a break from the group because I need to rekindle my passion for the project. Several weeks ago, I sent the group coordinator four blankets I started on donated needles as well as group needles from blankets I had finished. As the coordinator releases the blankets to the group, I will post photos. Update : April 20, 2014

Snowflake - revisited

Image
Snowflake Western Region Oddball Baby Blanket started December 2013 The group coordinator asked for two substitute knitters on Snowflake , so Cheryl and I volunteered. I knit the second section on this blanket in December and added the second to the last section in January. My second section was knit with Caron Simply Soft (white), using a seed stitch and stockinette block pattern. I used a new skein of yarn and discovered that the yarn coming from the center of the skein had grease and guck on the strands. Cheryl gave me the blanket when she finished her section, so I could use some laundry pre-soak on those sections. I washed the blanket, and thankfully, all the stains came out. Cheryl knit the last section, shown at the bottom of this photo, and did the bind off. She will start a new blanket on the empty needles. Update : March 21, 2014

Amber Waves of Grain

Image
Amber Waves of Grain Western Region Oddball Baby Blanket started December 2013 Yarn used for my four-inch section: Caron Simply Soft (Sand) Stitch use: Checks and Ridges Needle: size 6 The Oddball group has not been as active this year. The cause for the lag -  several of the group's blankets have been stalled for months at one member's house. It is doubtful those blankets will be put back in circulation, which is sad for those who have already invested time, postage, yarn, and needles in the stalled blankets. The negligent knitter has not been very forthcoming about the status of the blankets and refuses to mail the blankets to the coordinator or to other group members so they can be finished. I've been involved with Oddball knitting since 2006, and in all those years, only three individuals have "lost" or failed to circulate the blankets. Update : March 8, 2014
