Blocking for Sheila

Image
mini doily crocheted by Susan S. date unknown Recently I went over to Sheila's house to pick up some honey to mail to Judy and her Mr. in Wisconsin. Sheila (a non-knitter) and I looked through some of her mom's knitting patterns and hand-written knitting notes and notations to determine what could be discarded. In one box we found four doilies that Susan had crocheted that needed blocking. You may remember that Susan explained her process to me, and I blocked some of her final pieces . It is satisfying to see the doilies starched and stretched into their intended shapes. Big or small, Susan's doilies are works of art. square doilies crocheted by Susan S. date unknown These two square doilies were gorgeous, and blocking them required an "army" of pins to keep the sides straight. preliminary pinning of Susan S. square, crocheted doily Some of the "soldiers' had to be moved several times, but before long they were marching in a straight li...

Knitting Favorites

Today, I'd like to share a few favorite knitting sites. Down Cloverlaine - is a wonderful source of baby bibs and matching facecloths. Elaine is a generous designer and offers her wonderful patterns free. On the right side of her blog, check out the long list of bib and cloth patterns. I've knit many Simple Garter Stitch bibs over the years. The posts are here and  here . If you need a darling baby gift, I know a bib/washcloth set from one of Elaine's patterns would be a big hit! TECHknitting - this site has more information about knitting than you could ever possibly use. Spend some time browsing the blog to see what I mean. I know you will bookmark it. Knitty  online magazine - a great source of patterns and articles about knitting and designers. They also have a wonderful blog: Knitty Blog Ravelry - if you haven't joined this site, consider joining. It has more resources that I can even begin to mention: free patterns links, the opportunity to connect w...

Healthy Favorites

Image
Today I want to share some health/exercise sites that I am currently using or have used. All of these sites are similar in that they require free registration (you can determine how much you want to share) and they track your daily exercise and/or food intake. Some send motivational emails, reward coupons, or daily reminders. SuperTracker - affiliated with My Plate. This is an excellent exercise and food tracker. I particularly like that I can save favorite exercises/activities, making it easier to track my level of activity. This tracker will also send motivational emails if you make that selection. I have one complaint about this site: it doesn't remember log-in; thus, I must enter my password, etc. every time I want to enter data. Start Walking Now - affiliated with the American Heart Association. If you live in a more populated area with walking trails, this site will help you find them. Unfortunately, it doesn't list any trails in my area, but I do like the activity...

Sharing Some Favorites

Personally, I like blog posts with photographs, and the following blogs are three of my favorites. Forgotten Old Photographs features old photographs that FarSide of Fifty  purchases at local antique stores. Since being posted, many of the photos have been returned to family members: note the Full Circle list in the left column. One Snap Photo Journal  highlights quality photos taken by WoolWinder. On Sundays, the photo is accompanied by Scripture. Five Starr's Farm  also includes high-quality photographs.
