Sewing Up a Storm

Image
snowy morning April 22, 2023 Centennial, CO Snow days make for wonderful sewing days. I’m at Marilyn’s house this week for a Sisters’ Quilting Retreat. I’m working on some Quilt of Valor kits I prepared a couple of weeks ago, and Marilyn is working on an on-going project.  trimming half-square triangles for star points I prepared five kits to work on while I’m here, but I don’t think I’ll need all of them. I also have my knitting with me and work on it in the evening.

Back in Time - Sisters

Image
Marilyn & Evelyn (sisters) approximately 1948 or 1949 I love my sisters' silhouettes on the car in this old photo. If the photo was taken in 1948, Marilyn would have been three years old, and Evelyn (Sis) would have been seven years old. Don't you love the matching posing stances and their outfits - right down to the shoes and anklets.

Special Gift

Stephanie and Maria June 2015 It all started with a photograph taken before a wedding on a hot and humid day in Oshkosh, NE. A photo of a mother receiving a necklace from her daughter, the bride. Marilyn works on the counted cross-stitch portrait June 2017 The photo was lovingly transformed into a work of art by the bride's grandmother one stitch at a time.  I snapped the photo of Marilyn working on the project when she came to help me after my knee surgery. gradually, the image became more like the photograph June 28, 2017 Marilyn finished stitching on July 30, 2017 framed and ready for Christmas gifting September 2017 It was hard to wait until after Christmas to post about Marilyn's special gift. I think she did a beautiful job. Maria struggled with her emotions when she opened the gift. Note - the patten is attached to the back of the framed piece.  Marilyn has stitched other photographs here  and  here .  Marilyn stitched a pho...

Patriotic Stars

Image
November 2017 These blocks have quite a history: •  Marilyn gave me the panel in 2015 (post about that here ), and I had every intention of using it before now. •  In 2016, I finished two Quilts of Valor ( Scrappy Lanterns  and Cheerio ), and they resulted in a lot of "waste" HSTs. •  November 2017, the two components were discovered while cleaning, and I decided it was time to create some star blocks. I made fifteen patriotic stars from the HSTs and the panel blocks. Marilyn, thanks again for the fabric and panel.
