Alpine Shire Socks - OTN

Image
Alpine Shire socks June 2021 It will be fun to wear this bright pair of socks when the weather turns cold. The striping sequence was totally unpredictable, yet the yarn was a delight to knit. I hope the yarn wears and washes well.  This color way would also make a colorful shawl or cowl.  Yarn : Queensland Perth (Alpine Shire) 80% super wash wool/20% nylon Needles : US size 2 Stitches : 64

Alpine Shire May 2021 "Shire" is a term seldom used in the United States, but whenever I hear it, I think of J.R.R. Tolkien"s Middle-earth in The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings . How I loved reading of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and Frodo. I plan to reread the series this year. The color way of this ball of Perth is called Alpine Shire. If you've read the series, which of Tolkien's character(s) do you like?

Perth Socks - off the needles

Perth socks May 2021 I finished the socks knit with the Perth (Great Barrier Reef) yarn on Friday afternoon. The yarn clearly produced a pair of fraternal twins, but close enough to complement each other.  The socks were started in March and a preliminary review of the yarn was posted here . The final test for this yarn will be how well it reacts to being washed and worn.

I have never knit with this yarn before, so the socks are somewhat of an experiment.  This sock yarn is more of a fine (light) fingering weight than most of the sock yarn that I have in my stash. The strand is often plied with two colors which creates the gradual color changes. I love the dark rose and gold, but the orange and forest green don't really appeal to me in this ball of yarn. I doubt the socks will be a matching pair, but that doesn't usually matter that much to me.  This color way is Great Barrier Reef #122 The yarn knits well and creates a nice fabric with only a bit of splitting. Since it contains 80% Superwash wool and 20% nylon, the socks should wash and wear well. The price was very reasonable ($13.50) for a 100 gram ball - 437 yards. I hope the yarn does not pill or bloom after washing, as that is the ultimate test of an ...
