Cotton Candy

Image
Cotton Candy started and finished January 2013 I am attempting to find the bottom of a yarn basket (without much success) by knitting baby blankets on large needles. Even after knitting three, double-stranded blankets, the skeins in the basket seem to be multiplying rather than diminishing. Cotton Candy's specifics:  Needle size 13, using double strands of yarn Yarn - 1 skein Red Heart SuperSaver (Petal Pink) and 1 skein of mystery yarn (White) Pattern -  Encore Eight Hour Baby Blankets  (EBB06) - Plymouth Yarn 71 stitches Tickled Pink  was knit with the same pattern and Iced Lemonade , used a different pattern from the Eight Hour pattern book. The following photo is for those who wanted to see the mobius I made from the Sky Scarf.  Sky Scarf photo by Cheryl, a knitting buddy Because my back was facing the windows in the restaurant, the lighting in this photo is not the greatest, but the scarf is clearly visible. I am ve...

Sky Scarf - OTN

Image
Sky Scarf started April 8, 2012 finished January 6, 2013 After 273 days, this project is off the needles. The original plan was to knit a full year of daily sky colors. I grew tired of keeping the scarf up to date, and it became a drudgery; thus, I have a short scarf. Previous posts about this project can be found here . Update : yesterday I added a twist, grafted the ends, and turned this short scarf into a mobius. I will definitely wear it more than a simple scarf. I'll post a photo soon.

Public Debut

Image
Sky Scarf April 8 - September 29  Recently, my Sky Scarf made its first public appearance - Show and Tell at the Fiber Guild meeting.  Until I saw this photo, I didn't realize it was getting so long. Talk about tunnel vision. Does that happen as you work on a project?

Smoky Skies

Image
Sky Scarf April 8 - July 1 I started my Sky Scarf on Easter Sunday (April 8, 2012). During that short time, my scarf reflects the skies at home and on my recent trip to Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota. The dark grey section depicts the stormy skies in Minnesota and North Dakota. Most recently, I'm using a mixture of the three colors shown for the smoky skies caused by the wild fires raging in this region. A smoky haze appears to hang on the horizon most of the day and then creep closer during the evening hours, but it is the light playing tricks: the smoke is always this close, causing watery eyes and a dull headache. The air smells like a campfire, and it slowly begins to permeate everything in its path. Some nights, I dread opening the windows; however, the house will be hot the next day if I do not, so I succumb and invite the smoke into my house for the night. The warmth of the morning sun causes the smoke to retreat, but i...

Sky Scarf

Image
Sky Scarf in progress started Easter Sunday - April 8, 2012 Alpaca lace-weight yarn - size 3 needles I was intrigued when Grace ( Lovin Comfort Knits ) posted about about the Sky Scarf in January. It sounded like a lot of fun. My friend, Cheryl started the project on the first day of Spring, but I didn't get into the game until Easter Sunday. Since yarn shops are few and far between in this area, Cheryl and I both ordered the kit available from Leaf Cutter Designs . The price of the yarn is reasonable, and it arrived quickly. The kit includes the pattern, but "the pattern" (it is all garter stitch) is also available  here  free.  Since only two rows are knit each day, I write the color of the sky on my desk calendar for each day. When I change the calendar the next day, the sheet goes in the Sky Scarf basket, and once a week I sit down to knit. One fiber guild member is weaving a Sky Scarf, and another is knitting a Sunset Scarf, using the colors of each day...
