Julie's a dedicated cardio nurse whose own heart is as big as Texas, as she often makes beautiful quilts and gives them to her special patients. In 2011, I made Julie a  pair of socks  for a swap we had arranged. woman's size 10 June 2018 As I knit these socks, I was intrigued how the yarn seemed to change color depending on the lighting conditions. Under artificial light, it tends to be brown and gray, but under natural light it has more of a green tint. women's socks - size 10 June 2018 Pair #7 is ready to add to the 2018 Box of Socks. I couldn't resist clipping this pair to the bough of my neighbor's apricot tree, cascading over the side fence. Spring Thaw socks women's size 10 April 2018 It appears that Spring has finally arrived in the Rocky Mountains. Snow is still possible in the forecast, but the temperatures are nearing the 70s and new growth is appearing. It seems appropriate that pair #5 for the 2018 Box of Socks knit with Cherry Tree Hill - Spring Thaw is off the needles just as spring arrives. woman's size 10 sock April 2018 I've finished two socks so far this month, but they are not even close to being a pair. The first sock of the "non-pair" is being knit with Cherry Tree Hill self-striping yarn, called Sweet Summer. I didn't notice until I cast on the second sock that the striping changed on the first sock - the sequence is backwards near the toe. As I knit, I felt the join but didn't pay attention to the sequence. Even though the socks won't match, I rewound the yarn for the second stock to make sure the striping sequence is the same. woman's size 10 April 2018 The second sock is also being knit with a Cherry Tree Hill yarn. This color way is Spring Thaw and has a mix of orange, green, gray, and a tiny bit of black. Both of these skeins do not contain any nylon, so they probably will not wear/wash as well as the other socks I've knit this year. I'm ahead of my goal for knitting a pair of socks a month. two baby hats and a pair of women's socks - size 9 March 2018 The mornings have been very frosty lately, so it is appropriate that the color way of this Cascade Heritage Prints yarn is "Frosty Morn" (#05) This is pair #4 for the Box of Socks. The remaining yarn was used to knit the two baby hats. The hat at the bottom was knit with a semi-solid purple, using the helical stripe technique. I love how alternating the colors changes the appearance of the hat. The technique creates a smooth surface without having to carry the yarn on the wrong side. baby hat knit with multiple, tiny balls of scrap sock yarn March 2018 If you've never tried the helical stripe technique, I recommend it. I love how the yarns blend and create a design. This multi-colored hat was knit with over six small balls of scrap sock yarn, so I did have ends to weave as I knit. baby hat & pair of socks (women's size 9) March 2018 One of my goals this year is to knit at least one pair of socks a month. Last week, these colorful socks were finished, and I knit baby hat with the remaining yardage. Only a tiny bit of yarn remains. Doesn't this colorful yarn (Cascade Yarns - Heritage Prints #04 - Iris) remind you of Spring and Easter eggs.

women's size 9 - 10 March 2018 Most of the sock yarn in my stash is self-striping, and I enjoy watching the stripes reveal themselves as I knit. The stripes keep me motivated, as I will pull the yarn out of the ball and challenge myself to knit just one more stripe. Ellen gifted this ball of yarn to me, and I love the colors. Only a small bit of this yarn remains, and soon it will be combined with other bits to knit another baby hat for donation.

Snowflake socks women's size 9 February 2018 Last week was bitter cold (daily highs were in the single digits with subzero windchill), so I hunkered down and did a lot of knitting and sewing. This pair of socks was finished in two days - a record for me - as I listened to A Man Named Ove by Fredrik Backman. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it. You will laugh out loud at some of Ove's observations and actions, and shed a tear or two as well. Yarn : REGIA - Snowflake Color (#07708 - Ski Cap)           75% superwash wool 25% polyamid Needles :  US size 2 This yarn was a delight to knit, and I wish I had purchased another skein in a different color.
