Gorgeous Trees

Image
decorated tree Main Street, Parker, CO December 2019 I have always loved large trees. They have so much character, and they have many stories to tell. I often take photos of dead trees because their gnarled branches are beautiful. Today, I'm sharing a few photos of some large and elaborately lit trees in two states. The town of Parker, CO has many large trees decorated on Main Street, and on Christmas Eve, my brother-in-law pulled over so I could take some photos. Several years ago, my family went to the Denver Zoo, and many of the trees were similarly lit. I can't imagine how long it takes to put the lights on the individual limbs. The decorated trees are simply gorgeous. photo by Vicki K. (a friend of my sister, Marilyn) Cottonwood Drive and Parker Road Parker, CO December 2019 I failed miserably when I attempted to take a decent photo of this tree, so I borrowed a photo taken by Marilyn's friend, Vicki. "Legacy of Care" sculpture Sanford Hospital courtyard Fargo, ND February 2016 This sculpture, located near the front entrance of the Fargo hospital, caught my eye the first time Marilyn and I visited our sister in ICU. The hats and scarves added personalization to the sculpture and to the hospital surroundings. The tasteful "yarn bombing" made me smile. Have you seen yarn bombing in your community that made you smile?

Evelyn R. (Stearns) Mayland 1941 - 2016 My oldest sister (my family called her Sis) put up a long, brave fight against cancer, enduring three rounds of chemotherapy for her leukemia, and radiation for breast cancer over the last five years. Last week, it became too much for her body to handle, and she was removed from life-support on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. The podcast of the funeral service sermon on February 29, 2016 can be heard here . The text used by by Rev. Steve Schulz is John 3:16.  Through my faith, I know in God's time, I will see Sis again, but until then, I'll keep the good memories of her sealed in my heart.  sisters - Nancy, "Sis," and Marilyn Oregon coast approximately 1990 We had some great times together: Sis, Marilyn, and I went to Sisters, Oregon for the Outdoor Quilt Show, to Mackinac Island, Michigan, and to a quilt show in Duluth, Minnesota.  the last photo of me and my siblings (my brothers died soon afte...

On The Road - Unique ATM

Image
JL Beers Fargo, ND While shopping in downtown Fargo several years ago, my two sisters and I went to JL Beers for a burger.  If you've seen the movie Sister Act when the nuns walk into the bar, you'll understand the looks my sisters and I got when we walked into this bar and grill filled with young people. It was priceless, and I could almost hear them mutter: "If this turns into a senior citizen bar, then I won't be back." The food was excellent and the ATM in a door at the back of the bar was begging to be photographed. A photo of another unique ATM that I saw in Hawaii can be seen in this post.
