Grain Elevator Oshkosh, NE July 2015 Many of these gentle giants (grain elevators) are disappearing from the rural American landscape. While on a morning walk, I was delighted to find this one next to the railroad tracks in Oshkosh. Previous posts about other grain elevators can be found here . * * * P.S. Did you see the post on Wednesday about the  Take and Replace Swap  that I'm organizing?         The box is filled (it's stuffed with yarn and patterns) and ready to send         You can still join         Click on the link and leave a comment if you're interested. •  As of Friday, six individuals from New Jersey, Illinois, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Colorado, and Wyoming have joined the Swap. Mystery Underfoot

Discarded beverage tab Oshkosh, NE July 2015 A metallic glint caught my eye as I stepped out of the vehicle at the Oshkosh Auditorium. There underfoot was something that I haven't seen in years (possibly in over three for four decades) - a tab from a beverage can. I wondered when was it cast aside? How could it possibly be in such good condition after all these years? I remember when these tabs were common, but weren't they phased out in the late 1970s or early 1980s and replaced for the pop-tops that remain on the can? Do you remember these tabs? Do you remember wearing them as a "ring"?

Community Pride

Outdoor Mural City Park Oshkosh, NE July 2015 Oshkosh, NE is a small town, but several outdoor murals indicate its citizens are talented artists. Aren't the bright colors of this mural fun? Even though this is an abstract painting, I'm fairly certain it is actually a map of the town. The yellow diagonal line could easily be the train tracks that slice through the northern section of Oshkosh, and the large blocks of color probably represent the surrounding farm fields. Canada Goose mural at night Oshkosh, NE The goose mural photo was taken one night when I wandered downtown. It covered the side of a large, vacant building. Oshkosh is in the middle of the migratory path of many waterfowl (sandhill cranes, ducks, geese, etc.), but it is known as the Goose Hunting Capitol. I think it would be amazing to see the huge flocks feeding in the harvested cornfields. This area must be a hunter's paradise in the Fall.
