clue #1  A11 Mystery Quilt Along October 2020 The first mystery clue was released two weeks ago, and over the weekend, I worked on clue 1 and started working on clue 2. I should be caught up when the third clue is released tomorrow.  It's not too late to join in the fun. The clues can be found here .

Completed Puzzle

Pinwheel Puzzle 67 x 76 inches October 2020 The flimsy of Pinwheel Puzzle is finished and ready to be sent to a longarmer for quilting. I'm not pleased with the corner blocks because of the dark background fabrics, but they were in the kit and materials were tight. I tried to make them look "planned" by placing them in the corners. The blocks do not stand out as much in person as they do in the photo.  Even with the pattern measure errors, I am pleased with the result. I love the rich tones of the colors in this quilt. Here's a close up of some of the fabrics and the blocks.  closeup of some of the blocks Everything but the borders were completed during Sunday afternoon FaceTime calls with my sister and niece.

Seams Galore

Image
October 2020 The Pinwheel Puzzle quilt has many seams to match, to sew over, and to press. I tend to use a lot of pins when dealing with multiple seams or a long seam. I think it's a throwback to the days I made clothing. All the blocks are sewn together, and this week I will be adding borders - a thin one and a wide, outer border. I ordered the outer border fabric on Etsy, and it arrived on Saturday.

On the Needles

October 2020 I like knitting with Regia yarn: it makes a nice sock and wears well, too.

In the Neighborhood

Image
Little Library Grand Villa October 2020 The owner of my apartment complex built a Little Library for the tenants, and everyone could not be happier. It's twice the size of most of the Little Libraries I've seen, and has weather stripping around the doors, so it will be weather tight.  inside is a wide variety of books This is not a registered Free Little Library, but it's a great addition to the neighborhood, and better yet, it's just across the parking lot.

Filling in the Blanks

Image
waiting for the last six blocks to be finished October 2020 I've been slowly, ever so slowly, sewing blocks for the Pinwheel Puzzle quilt. It seems like I've been working on this quilt for months. I keep adding more blocks, but now when the six blank spaces are filled, I'll sew the blocks together and add a border.  Once I discovered the cutting directions in the pattern were incorrect, the remaining blocks did not waste as much fabric as the earlier blocks .  I think the pattern error was on the size of the solid squares rather than the pinwheels, but since I had all the pieces cut out, I was committed to making the blocks smaller.  My blocks will finish at 9 inches.

Care Package

Image
A couple of weeks ago, Marilyn sent me a care package of homemade popcorn balls and Hot Tamales. I've written about Marilyn's popcorn balls before, and if you like a soft popcorn ball, check out the recipe in this earlier post . Hot Tamales are a pandemic feast or famine product: before Marilyn sent the package, it was impossible in this area to find even a small box of the sugary treat. I've since found them in the dollar store and also in Ridley's, a local grocery store.  Marilyn's package came at the perfect time, and I enjoyed every bite.
