Kathyb's Swap

Image
swap goodies June 2018 I've participated in several of the swaps that Kathyb ( Compassionknit ) has organized, and this one did not disappoint. The swap requirements were specific:               The Summer Swap will have a deadline of July3rd. This means                     your pal  should have their yarn by July 3rd.              The contents must be able to fit in a large mailing                       envelope. (cheaper to mail this way)              You need to send your swap pal : A lovely skein of yarn,                       something red, white   and blue, and ONE BUTTON. Valerie ( Wandering Cat Studio ) sent a skein of luscious wool, cashmere, nylon sock yarn (Fruit Smoothie), th...

Anything But Yarn Swap

Image
Swap box contents from Betsy Fat quarters for quilting, double-point needle keeper, knit dishcloth, removable stitch markers, needle gauge, yarn cozies, Japanese coin purse, washi tape, note pad, tea, air freshener, and coaster August 2017 KathyB hosted another swap this year, which I gladly joined. The theme was " Anything But Yarn ." My swap partner was Betsy (you can see what I sent her on her blog: The Simple Life of a Queen ), who was also my partner for the previous swap. Since Betsy and I started reading each other's blogs nearly two years ago, we have picked up a few details about each other's life, including likes and favorite colors and crafts. The items Betsy sent are perfect - things for quilting, knitting, and relaxing. Thanks for being a great swap partner, Betsy! Thanks, KathyB for hosting another successful swap.

Dishcloth Swap

Image
dishcloths and scrubby made for the swap August 2016 In early August, Kathyb organized a dishcloth swap, and fourteen people joined in the fun. The swap guidelines required each person to make and send two dishcloths. One or two small trinkets could also be included in the package. I sent two cloths, a tulle scrubby, and some knitting notions to my swap partner - Betsy ( The Simple Life of a Queen ). Thanks, Kathyb for the fun and easy swap. The pattern I used is no longer available online, but it uses the Double Woven Stitch - YouTube has a tutorial for completing the stitch  here . Double Woven Dishcloth   made with US size 7 or 8 needles one ball of cotton dishcloth yarn Cast on 38 stitches or any multiple of four Rows 1-4:   Knit across Row 5:  K3, P32, K3 Row 6:  K6, *sl 2 wyif, move yarn to back, K2; repeat from * to last               4 stitches; K4 Row 7:  K3, P32, K3 Row 8:  K4...

Take & Replace Swap - Completed

Image
contents of the Take & Replace Swap box October 2015 Last week the Take & Replace Swap box found its way back to me, so the swap is officially completed. The box travelled from coast to coast and a lot of places in between. It started in Wyoming went east to Illinois, then further east to New Jersey, sent back west to Wisconsin, on to South Dakota, back to Wyoming, headed south to Colorado, journeyed further west to California, and returned home to Wyoming. The swap covered seven states and a little over 5,000 miles less than a month. Thanks to the following participants for keeping the box moving and for placing some great items inside the box. Kathyb  (Illinois)  Grace  (New Jersey) Judy  (Wisconsin) Sylvia – no blog (South Dakota) Kay – no blog (Wyoming) Paula  (Colorado) Ellen  (California) I hope everyone had a good time switching up their stash.

Swap Progress

It’s official, the Take & Replace Swap box is on the move, and it is going to be traveling from shore to shore. How fun is that! Participants (click on their names to check out their blogs) in mailing order include: Kathyb (Illinois) posted photos of her take from the box here Grace (New Jersey) Judy (Wisconsin) Sylvia – no blog (South Dakota) Kay – no blog (Wyoming) Paula (Colorado) Ellen (California) Me (Wyoming) I’ll email the mailing addresses to the participants when the person before them receives the box. An email will also be sent with the tracking number once the box has been mailed. Hopefully, each person will post a photo of the items they took on their blog. Want to join? I can add your name to the list, if let me know by 5 PM today.  That USPS truck you see zipping down the road just might be carrying the Take & Replace Swap box to its next location.

Want to Swap?

I'm organizing a Take and Replace (knitting/crochet related) swap. Here's how it will work:  •  It is a Take and Replace Swap. I will start the USPS Medium Flat Rate box containing at least a dozen times on its journey. •  When the box arrives at the next swapper's house, she may take as many of the items as she wants as long as she replaces one item for another. If the item is yarn, she doesn't have to replace it with yarn, but it would be nice if the majority of the items are knit related (patterns, notions, etc.) Please replace with something equivalent to what you take. • Put the items in a USPS Medium Flat Rate box and send to the next person. Be aware that the Medium Flat Rate Box is $12.65 to mail no matter what it weighs . Boxes are free at any post office, ask the clerk if they are not in a floor display. Just make sure you get a Medium Flat Rate box •  You can post a photo on your blog of the items you took, but do not show what you put in the ...

Seacell Socks

Image
women's size 10 I first posted these socks in March when I reviewed the Sock Rocket needles . The yarn came from Katherine (I think) in a swap hosted by Kathyb . Pattern: Plain Jane - ribbed cuff socks Needles: size 2, US Yarn: Creatively Dyed Yarn (Ocean)  70% wool and 30% Seacell  - 5.6 ounces fingering Regina Tweed  70% super wash wool, 25% polyamide, 5% Viscose It's the first time, I've ever knit with yarn that contained Seacell: it is a bit coarse to knit and split a bit, but I think it will wear like iron. I tried several projects (a cowl, a hat, a shawl) with this yarn before deciding to knit the Plain Jane socks, and I have enough remaining to make another pair. The Ocean color way is a vibrant and over-powering, so I paired it with the tweed to tone it down a bit.

Super Swap

Cherry Tree Hill yarn (Pesto) Regular readers of this blog know that I love to knit socks - nothing fancy, just plain Jane socks and that I occasionally offer to knit socks for one or two readers a year. Judy ( Cranberry Morning ) left the comment, shown above, on the Blackjack Socks post , and I offered to knit her a pair of socks. She told me her shoe size and that her favorite color was Kelly Green. As luck would have it, I had a hank of Kelly Green yarn (called Pesto) in my sock yarn stash and began knitting. Judy's socks women's size 9 I also had a pair of short-cuffed socks already knit from some scrap merino, so I included those in Judy's package as an additional surprise. Judy's post about her green socks can be seen here . When I told Judy, I would love to knit her a pair of socks, she generously offered to send me five bars of her remarkable soap in return. Since Judy has such a wonderful variety of soaps, I asked her to chose for me. I...

Fall Swap Scarf

Image
I love everything about this scarf - the yarn, the colors, the knitting , and the pattern. I was dreading all the 1x1 ribbing, but it actually went fairly quickly. Pattern: Jared Flood's Noro Scarf Yarn: Noro Silk Garden (Color 349 - two skeins), (Color 381 - one skein), (Color 297 - one skein) Needles: size 7 straight needles I love this scarf so much, I may knit another one.

Fall Swap

Image
Swap items that I kept Kathyb hosted a Fall Swap, and she mailed a package of goodies to me. I could take anything out of the package as long as I replaced it with something of equal value. I kept the items shown above, filled the envelope with two skeins of sock yarn, a pattern, some recipe cards, etc. and sent it on to Ellen in California. This is the project I have in mind for the Noro, or it may become this project  (similar, but a different rib) if I don't like to do the 1 x 1 rib for an eternity. I purchased two additional skeins (shown on the top in this photo) on Friday and will start the scarf after I finish a couple of other projects in the works. Thanks, Kathyb for another fun swap. I participated in Summer Swap 2011 and in  Take and Replace 2011 .
