Wyoming Breezes

South wall of the bus garage Eppson Center for Seniors Laramie, Wyoming Local artist, Dan Toro created this commissioned mural for the Eppson Center. He uses spray paint to create his murals, many of which are located throughout Laramie.  Eventually this area will have grass and picnic tables.

Bond's Brewing Mural in the alley behind Bond's Brewing (Second Street) painted by Dan Toro Laramie, WY September 2022 This colorful mural was painted this summer and is definitely one of my favorites. I love the bright colors and the image.  The mural was painted by Dan Toro. You can read about him and the other mural artists here .  Isn't the blue sky amazing! This is the first summer in years that wildfire smoke hasn't clogged the sky in Wyoming.

Waiting Room Spectacles painted by Favian Hernandez north wall of Laramie Vision Clinic South Second Street, Laramie, WY August 2022 This new mural is in an area called Laradise Lane on South Second Street. This open area between two buildings was created when a fire destroyed the building that stood there. The space contains picnic tables (many with umbrellas), large outdoor games (Connect Four and Jenga), and large wooden planters with flowers that separate the area into private spaces.  The mural was commissioned by Laramie Eye Clinic (whose building on which the mural is painted) and the Laramie Public Art Coalition.

Pistol Pete mural on Fifth Street between Grand and Garfield Laramie, WY Pistol Pete is one of the mascots for the University of Wyoming. Obviously, the UW on the chaps signifies University of Wyoming. The OSU could be Oklahoma State University, Ohio State University or Oregon State University. Possibly, one of those three is significant to the artist or the owner of the building.  Update: Oklahoma State University are also Cowboys. This cowboy drawing is also associated with their mascot. Thanks for the tip, Sara. 

north exterior wall of Turtle Rock Cafe Ninth Street, Laramie, WY October 2021 photo by Kathleen B. Kathleen spotted one of the newest murals in town and snapped a photo. Since she took the photo, more flowers have been added on the upper left. This mural is very similar to the one in this post .  Thank you, Kathleen for sharing your photo and telling me about this gorgeous mural. These two murals are by far my favorites. 

Sometimes it's difficult to get a good photo of the murals in Downtown Laramie. This Wyoming mural is large and covers the entire side of the building. I love how the artist painted the "shadow" the antelope mount casts. It gives a realistic touch to the mural as do the map rolls by the building entrance. Last week's mural closeup of the Post-It note can be seen above the second white vehicle in the photo and to the right of the coffee mug in the photo on the right.  Laramie has a LOT of murals and more are being added all the time.

Wildflowers  in the alley between Third and Fourth Streets Laramie, WY The newest mural in Laramie is definitely one of my favorites, and just seeing it as I drive down Third  Street makes me smile. It’s an explosion of wildflowers on the back of a medical clinic. note how the doors blend into the mural The side of the building portrays the Wyoming state flower - Indian Paintbrush, as well as the ever present sunflower.  It’s delightful to see such beautiful artwork in the community.

mural on the south side of the NAPA Auto Parts store on south 2nd Street, Laramie, WY The mural on the NAPA Auto Parts Store has both a vintage and a modern look. Auto parts are sold for all makes of vehicles, so the mural is a good representation of the business. 

bamboo mural in the alley between University, Ivinson and  First and Second Streets Laramie, WY Check out the detail on this mural. I love how the metal pipe and the electrical meter are incorporated into the design. 

door painted with the likeness of Butch Cassidy Laramie, WY Laramie is the home of the historic Wyoming Territorial Prison where Butch Cassidy was imprisoned from 1894 to 1896. Cassidy was one of Wyoming's most infamous citizens, and his exploits are woven throughout Wyoming's early history.  The door with Butch Cassidy's likeness can be found in the alley between First and Second Streets at Ivinson and Grand. 

Not all of the public art (murals) in Laramie are large and commanding. Some are small and hint at something larger than themselves. This mosaic is on the west side of the alley between Ivinson and Grand.  It's made with bits of tile, broken mirrors and pottery shards.  On a side note: I received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine last Thursday. Other than a sore arm on Friday and a red patch the size of a fifty-cent piece at the vaccination site, I didn't have any side effects. I'm scheduled for the second dose next month. 

mural behind the Downtown Clinic Laramie, WY This mural is tucked in the alley between Second and Third Streets and on a side wall of the Downtown Health Clinic. It's really hard to photograph the entire mural because of a community garden next to the building.  writing on the mural's "cast" The cast extends beyond the garden and. as typical of any cast, has been signed. It is fun to read the names and study the drawings on the cast. community garden at the Downtown Clinic In the courtyard, opposite the mural, is another section of the community garden and another painted mural - a blooming vine.

new mural on the Free Wall Laramie, WY June 2020 I spotted this beautiful, new mural on the Free Wall last week when I went downtown to photograph the additions to the COVID-19 mural.  The artist did an amazing job on this depiction on Martin Luther King, Jr.  

COVID-19 mural June 2020 Two masked critters (prairie dogs) were added to the COVID-19 mural  recently.  Wyoming has seen a large increase of positive COVID-19 cases, so I wish more people would follow the example of the animals on this mural.  Governor Gordon urges Wyomingites to wear masks through the use of these two graphics:

antelope on the prairie wearing a mask May 2020 The new mural in town reflects the COVID-19 pandemic with wildlife wearing masks to maintain social distancing.  The Boomerang, the local newspaper, reported that this mural was painted on a Free Wall meaning it was not commissioned and can be changed or added to at any time.
