Do You Remember . . .

box of 8-track tapes for sale
Goodwill - Laramie, WY
September 2018
. . . when these were popular?

I played some of mine so much they literally wore out.  Lots of wonderful memories of cruising down the highway with the windows open (no A/C) and singing along to the Mamas and Papas, The Carpenters, John Denver, The Beach Boys, and Buck Owens.

Somewhere in my garage are two 8-track tapes one of my students made of the musical Godspell that I directed at Wheatland High School in the mid-1970s. I don't have a player anymore, but I can't bring myself to throw the tapes away.

  1. Yes but now cassette tapes are also antique and I have a huge amount of those.

  3. Vinyl albums, 8-tracks, and cassettes - all out of date. I sold all of my 8-tracks and the player when we moved from Iowa back to South Dakota in late 70s. But I have 2 crates of vinyl albums sitting on a shelf in my basement and a box of cassettes.

  4. My Dad's Lincoln Town Car came with an 8-track player. We thought we had cutting edge tech. LOL

  5. Oh yes, I remember those. And we listened to the same ones you did. The night we got engaged, someone broke into Dennis‘s car and stole all his Elvis eight tracks. What a memory!
We also had two big boxes of albums and since we had no record player, I sold them at a garage sale for five dollars while Dennis was out of the country on business. I think it was the only time he was a little bit miffed with me, although he didn’t say much. Now that record players are coming back into fashion, those albums would probably be worth a lot of money. The Best of Bread, Elvis, Gordon Lightfoot and the list goes on and on.

  10. It sounds like we have the same tastes in music. We didn't own an 8-track player. We went from vinyl records to cassette tapes. When CDs came along, I was amazed at the clarity of sound.
