A Quick Question

In this area, gasoline prices typically increase around Memorial Day and stay that way until tourist season ends in the Fall.

Currently the price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is hovering around $3.00

Thanks to the COVID-19 shutdowns, I used only two tanks of gasoline from March 2020 through April 2021. I drove so little, that the car battery had no life in September 2020. After that, I set a reminder to drive the car every week to keep the battery charged. Now, that life is returning to “normal,” I won’t have any worries about a dead battery.

What is the cost of gasoline in your area?

Comments

  1. Ours is around $1.30 a Litre - which if I understand right would be about $5.20 a gallon. Our gas has always been more expensive than the states (I think it's because we have more taxes built into the price... there's the sales tax, the "carbon off-set" tax, and some other tax. Not to mention the cost of importing it because most of the gas we produce is actually owned by U.S. companies and sent to the states to be refined, then sent back here.
Ours normally increases during the same time as yours, but other than a blip around the start of COVID (where it dropped to less than $1.10 a Litre), it's pretty much remained well above $1.20 a litre - even though barrels are selling much much lower. Of course, because of all the tax money they receive, our government is not inclined to step in and make it go lower.
It's the same with our housing market - they could do things to cool it but they won't because of the taxes they get, and the fact that the people investing in it/profiting from it are some of the biggest political contributors.

  2. I bought gas last week in Little Rock, Arkansas for $2.67 a gallon. I normally fill up but lately have only put in $20.00 at a time. I am retired but most of my trips are across town so I buy gas about once every 10 days.

  4. We're in a tourist town so it is always a little higher, but it's at $3.79/gallon.

  5. The pumps right near us are $3.19 a gallon, but I gassed up the other day for $3.09 a gallon (down the road in the opposite direction). It is usually cheaper where Colin lives too. I can't imagine using only 2 tanks of gas in a year! That's amazing. I have been enjoying gassing up once a month rather than weekly.

  6. Here in New Zealand the petrol, gas to you, costs about $2.16 litre. We have a diesel 4WD and the fuel costs about $1.39 litre or approx $100 to fill an empty tank. The difference in our currency is 1 USA$ equals 1.40 NZ$. All our fuel is imported, mostly from Singapore, hope this all makes sense to you.

  7. Regular with 10% ethanol is just under $3 here. But we are on Interstate 90, so summer gas prices are always a bit higher due to tourist traffic. Our 2 main grocery stores in town offer discounts at their gas pumps for purchases in the grocery store. I just looked at my grocery receipt and I have 25 cents a gallon discount, so my fill-up will be cheaper tomorrow morning when I leave for my long anticipated girls weekend. Yay!!

  8. It varies widely. One station has it at $3.03. Most are around $3.15 - $3.20.

A couple of stations on "the main line" (a ritzy area) were up around $4.00. Not sure what is up with that.

  10. I have a kind husband who keeps my car filled as needed. I don't drive all that many places either. We usually take his car -- an electric hybrid which allows the gas driven motor to kick in after 20 miles or so. We haven't paid for a lot of gas over the last year or so. But 2 x a month he goes down to Richmond for his outdoor rehearsals for Barbershop but the car gets fabulous milage. According to Gas Buddy regular is just under $3.00/gallon around here. The farther away from I 95 the less expensive the gas seems to be.

  12. We have paid anywhere from $3.19 to $3.79 so far for diesel as we’re driving from Spokane to Omaha this weekend. Sleeping in Gillette, WY tonight! Waving hi Nancy from the northeast corner of your state.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
