Finding a Frame

I've worn glasses since fourth or fifth grade, and over the years, I've worn a wide variety of frame styles. I've never been completely happy with the frames I've worn, but it's difficult to select a frame when you can't see well.

In the early 70s, I wore a small oval frame, and later changed to large frames in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. In the 90s, I opted for an oval frame style, but since the mid-2000s, I’ve worn a rectangular frame.

Since I've had cataract surgery on both eyes, it's time to think about selecting a new frame. I'm leaning towards another rectangular frame in either blue, black, or charcoal gray.

What frame styles have you worn?

  1. Oh thoses EXTRA LARGE glasses are great!! LOL I started wearing glasses when I was in college. First I had the round wire frame ones (think Janis Joplin), later I had retangular and then some larger frames. I tend to gravitate to anything that is light weight. My cataract surgery is coming up...I will soon be picking out something new too!!

  2. Will your correction be for reading only? Ask the eye doc for your prescription and go to Walmart and get several pair !! You can get two or three pair for the cost of one at the eye doc:)

  3. In the 80s I had big round frames, but have mostly worn rectangular ones in recent years. The current ones have a slight blue tint in the frames. I need to have my glasses updated too.

  4. All different ones but after the surgery I only need reading ones and get them at Walgreens.

  5. I wore glasses very, very similar to yours over the years, (except the giant ones!), and I have also worn glasses since the 4th grade. We've been getting our glasses at Walmart for several years now because in our opinion, they actually did a better job than our eye doctor and they are much less expensive. We just get our prescription printed off from the doctor and go to Walmart. By then the drops have worn off and we can actually see too. :-)

  6. I wanted to wear glasses like my grandmother did when I was a kid. I really envied her. Now that I have to wear them I hate them. I have a retina disorder which makes my eyes have good days and bad days so I have tons of glasses in lots of different strengths. I like cheap plastic the best because I break them or lose them all the time. I buy reading glasses by the dozen from Amazon and pamper my "real" glasses which were not cheap but look exactly like my cheap Amazon glasses. Go figure.

  7. I have rectangular ones now--dark tortoise shell. The new glasses will be fun to have-it is always a big decision cuz it's the first thing people see! (I get frustrated cuz I can't see how the new frames will look on me either--this time I took a ton of selfies and that helped me a LOT to see myself!)

  8. How nice to see these photos of you, I really had no idea what you looked like! I started wearing glasses for short sightedness when I was about 8, just couldnt read the blackboard at school. So wore glasses most of my life, as well as contacts in later years. Had cataract surgery in my 60s so went from being extremely short sighted to 20 20 vision, only needing reading glasses now as you will. Strangely enough, I like/need to wear my glasses while eating meals , so I can see the items on my plate clearly. And for reading, knitting stitching too of course.

  9. What no cat eyes frames? First glasses were in 6th grade. By early high school I was wearing contact lenses. Then thirties — I was done with contacts. I’ve worn all sorts of glasses but some I’ve hated and can’t figure out why I bought them. Some day I’ll have cataract surgery but not yet. So it’s glasses for me.

  11. One reason I didn't become a nun = All the nuns at the Catholic school wore glasses. I didn't want to wear glasses. I now have glasses. Perhaps, I should have become a nun???? Ha!
