Vaccine Hesitancy

Wyoming COVID vaccination rates

I was disappointed, but not surprised, when I saw this graphic two weeks ago. The areas on the map are the individual counties in Wyoming. I live in Albany County.

Wyoming residents were upset last year when Governor Gordon issued a mask mandate and restricted gathering sizes. Wyoming residents pride themselves in being independent, and the mandates and restrictions created feelings that the government was infringing on personal freedoms.

I don't see the statistics changing much even though it's possible to easily be vaccinated without an appointment.

What are vaccination rates like in your community/state?

  1. I am not sure I will have to look. Personally anyone not vaccinated is taking a chance with the new variant...and the after effects of getting Covid...what are they thinking??

  2. Sadly, 33percent in Tennessee.

  3. Our rate in our Nebraska county is 50.9% but in our Washington county it is 42.9%. Overall Washington is well over 70% but eastern WA is much like Laramie, very independent people who don't like being told what to do! Seattle, not so much and that's where the 70% number comes in.

  4. It depends on what political party you are in. I hate that it has fallen to that, but it is true!!!

  5. Oddly, the most educated and well to do counties in our state have the highest vaccination rates. Do rich people know something the rest of us don't? I will say they are not Biden supporters either...um...and overall our state is closing in on 60%. We may get better band for the buck if we shipped our unused vaccines to other countries. they would love to have them! :)

  6. Vaccine hesitancy correlates with politics and ignorance.

  7. Our governor famously - and unfortunately - made mask wearing and no shut-downs a HUGE political statement. I had to do some checking on SD and was actually disappointed in what I found. Only approximately 44% statewide and about 34% in my county. Yikes!!! However, our local newspaper had suggested that the numbers of fully vaccinated people in my age group (over 65) were very high. Now I'm wondering if that is even right. I have a cousin who is very vocal about how stupid people are to get a vaccination for something you haven't gotten sick with - which is actually the whole idea isn't it? Prevention? But he sees it as a liberal Democrat conspiracy. I just don't understand it.

  8. We are at 52% here in Maryland. Our idiot governor just declared the emergency over yesterday and lifted all restrictions even though the vaccine folks say we need at least 70% for herd immunity AND on the same day the CDC announced the new worrisome stats on the Delta variant that the vaccines don't work as well on. I am very happy to say that many are ignoring him. The use of masks here is still about 70% whenever you go inside any establishment and I am seeing lots of kids wearing masks even outside since the news about the Delta variant being dangerous to kids was reported.

  9. Wisconsin statewide: 53% with one dose; 47% fully vaccinated.
Clark County:28% with one dose, 23% fully vaccinated.
We have a many Amish and Mennonites that do not get vaccinations for any diseases.

  10. We are getting close to 70% in Oregon, which is when all mask mandate etcetera will go away.

  11. As of today, 55% in my county have received at least one dose.

I doubt we will get to 70% by July 4th.

  12. We don't have any map of our area like this, though I wish we did, because I'd love to know. Apparently in our province we have something like 60% of adults with one dose, but only 5% with the second (they just started rolling out second shots and it's only for people over 70 right now.). They say they are aiming for 80% of adults with both doses by the end of summer.
But I know quite a few people who refuse to be vaccinated, so I wonder...

  13. Pennsylvania is doing well as a state, Philadelphia as a city within the state, not so much. A lot of people are suspicious of the vaccine, and a lot of others don't think they need it. Sigh.

  14. When I read this after it first came out I wanted to respond but waited until I got data I could share. Va. is at 49.3% of the residents fully vaccinated. My county is at 40.81%. I live in "active" senior subdivision and I know a lot of people I've talked to rushed to get the vaccine when it first was available even to the point of waiting on telephone or internet connections. We didn't have to wait more than a couple of weeks after the first initial rush to get ours. What has surprised me is I personally know 2 people who do not want to get the vaccines because 1 said she'd lived a great life and ... the other said she didn't like what was going on in the US now and would rather be with Jesus. Um, my comment is I couldn't think of a harsher way to die feeling like you are drowning and not getting enough oxygen. Now I'm debating as to whether I want to go to places where they are also. I know I'm vaccinated fully but at some point it's going to not be adequate against the forms we have around us and new variants that are creeping into our state. I did notice that state cases are going up. (And that data was 9 days ago supposedly.) This was an interesting post. I was interested to see the comments folks posted. I don't think the MD governor was crazy to lift sanctions because honestly, that's based on the CDC's recommendations. Our governor lifted restrictions too. So way more info than you wanted probably.

  16. <9,000,000 have been vaccinated in FL--46% of the population. We have a lot more people here than Wyoming and depending on the county, most are pretty independent, too! lol I'll be interested to see when they start requiring the second round of the whole vaccinations for the winter round of flu again (all kinds)
