Christmas Village

North Pole village
December 2020

Marilyn and Brenda have been collecting houses and accessories for the North Pole village (Department 56) for years. Many of the houses were purchased at clearance sales. This year, my brother-in-law created a new styrofoam base for the display.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to see the display in person, but it looks fabulous in the photos that he shared.

The display captures some of the magic of Santa's hometown.

Do you have a collection of Christmas items?

  1. That is amazing. Your brother-in-law did a great job with the styrofoam base. I'd love to see it in person too.

  2. So pretty! I, too, would love to see it in person. Bonny also posted about Dept 56 today! No collections for me, but we have some very vintage ornaments from when I was a child.

  3. What a great idea but how talented he must be to make it look so real. Including the stairs, the ice rink and the sleighing trail. I have a small tree with miniature ornaments and I love it.

  4. What a fun display with interesting details! My husband's cousin Curt had a village collection that he displayed every year on his big dining table. It brought him such joy! I collection ornaments and have a Danbury Mint annual gold ornament from nearly every year since 1977 when we married. I'm only missing a couple of years.

  7. Wow!!! My mom had a Christmas Village under her tree once the Grands were all old enough to respect it. She started collecting hers late in life and now that I think about it have no idea what became of all her pretty things. I guess my sister's got to it before I did. Lol....

  8. What an amazing village! He made such a wonderful base for it and it must have taken a LOT of time and love to do it.
I used to collect village pieces but I gave them all to Mandy when she and Brad got their first house. She always loved to set it up even more than I did.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. So pretty, it's such a shame that you wont be able to see it upnclosecand personal. Hopefully, next year.
We have a little Christmas Village scene displayed, with hill townhouses, trees, pretty lights and snow. Probably a bit strange as it is Summer here at Christmas, but I guess my ancestral English and Scottish blood is hankering for a white Christmas.

  11. I love those bottle brush trees. I've never had something like that. Growing up as military dependents we had to keep the weight limit down for moving every 3 years. Nowdays, I don't have the space.

  13. Wow! It looks fabulous. It must be something to see up close. I used to collect Santas. After getting about 10 I decided it probably would be smart to quit. But my favorites come out every year. Luckily we have a lot of storage space as the biggest is about 20 to 24" tall. Most are a bit smaller than that but not a whole lot smaller.
