Knitting with "Local" Wool

Mountain Meadow Wool
August 2017
I purchased two skeins of Mountain Meadow Wool at the 2016 Fiber Fest in Riverton, and in my recent knitting frenzy, I finished a cowl with one of the skeins.

The wool was milled and dyed in Buffalo, WY, and next month the Fremont Fiber Art Guild is going to take a trip to tour the mill.

I haven't decided if I am going to block the finished cowl.

  1. I love when you can buy and knit local. Sadly, I think we only have one dyer left here. I don't think there are any mills. The Fiber Seed mills their yarn in Maine and dyes it in Tampa. The two indie dyers I know have stopped dying.

Your yarn is a beautiful color. Won't that be perfect for fall!

  3. A perfect Fall cowl! And so cool that it's local. I think it looks fine the way it is, so would not bother blocking. Are you planning to go on the tour? That would be fun.

  5. The yarn is beautiful and I like that it is merino. It will be so soft and warm.
Not sure that it needs blocking - looks very nice as is.
I am sure you will be tempted to buy more when you visit their mill.

  6. The cowl is lovely, and definitely reminds me of the colors of fall. I've heard from everyone who has tried that yarn that it is really nice. I hope someday I can find a skein or two to try. Have a good weekend!

  7. The yarn is beautiful and so is the knitting. We've been to Buffalo a lot. My husband has a cousin who lives there and we actually considered buying a hotel that was for sale on the main road about 10 years ago. I love it for it's easy access to the Big Horn mountains. How fun that you'll be going to a place I love to visit. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.
    Blessings, Betsy

  8. How cool is that -- yarn made nearby and a field trip to the mill. I hope you find some great bargains at the mill and can add some beautiful yarn to your stash! (Hey, you've been knitting up a storm recently!)
