Buyer Beware
Anyone who uses a CPAP machine knows that the flow of air can dry the nose and throat, so most CPAPs have a humidifier attachment. I have used a CPAP since 2003, and the manufacturers recommend using distilled water in the humidifier.
Typically, I can purchase distilled water in the grocery store for about a dollar a gallon. Recently I ordered supplies online for my CPAP therapy, and saw the "Hydration Fluid" on the website. Supposedly this is a patent-pending product purer than distilled water and will reduce contaminates and build up in the humidifier.
At $3.99 for 12 ounces, it would cost over $41.00 to purchase a gallon of hydration fluid. That is ridiculous!
Holy moly! That's pricey stuff. I would just stick with the regular distilled water...I know that's what my brother uses.
ReplyDeleteThat is a HUGE cost! And so sneaky that they sell in small bottles to hide that cost per gallon.
ReplyDeleteAlways have to stay on your toes...good job.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy? Bottle it smaller and add a fancy name so you can charge much, much, much more! Not nice at all.

Wow! I had to buy distilled water for my little humidifier I bought when I had thrush since my mouth was so dry at night. The little thing ran great and I was surprised at how little residue was left over in the tank when I cleaned it and put it away after using it for 6 weeks. You should see what I get left over from my well water. We don't use it for anything. except doing dishes and bathing.
ReplyDeleteOh my! I know my Dad used distilled water for his CPAP and has had no issues. Well... except they have to be careful where they store the bottles... their Lab Jem likes to run off with them (full or empty, she doesn't care, she just loves plastic bottles!)
ReplyDeleteMust be some special water! Hope your shot goes well today! I am feeling better today. Still tired...so I will nap the afternoon away!
ReplyDeleteEh. I buy purified water for my iron. If you buy it as Purified for Babies it’s twice as much. Nothing like trying to get more money out of consumers.
ReplyDeleteI feel so badly for anyone who has to wear those contraptions. I hope someone smart invents something else quickly. !!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is ridiculous! My husband needs to use a CPAP, but he tried one years ago and didn't like it. I can't get him to try the newer ones/
