Virtual Holiday

When I saved this cartoon last year, I had no idea a virtual holiday meal would become a reality and not so funny in 2020. The surging numbers of Covid-19 in many states, makes a virtual Thanksgiving the most sensible thing to do.

Did you alter your family Thanksgiving celebration because of Covid-19?

  1. Yes, my house is only half full...thankful for technology so I can 'see' my parents this morning!
    Hugs to you!

  2. Yes we sure did. Planning to do a "drive by" later today. Although I had planned to leave by 8:30 this morning and that obviously isn't happening, unless I go in my PJs. And Dave stayed up extra late watching some movie and isn't even awake yet.

  3. Talk about an eerie prediction. Nothing will change for us. The advantage of not being a large extended family, I guess. Thanks for the card. Sorry if you can't be with family.

  4. Yes. We usually go to D.C. and spend Thanksgiving with Steve's brother and his family. Our son lives down there too. We get to spend time with him hiking and I get to visit with a fellow blogger one day. That's off the plan this year.

Stephen is here and we will have a turkey and all the fun stuff that goes along with it. But, it will be a relatively quiet day.

Wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful to count you among my friends.

  5. I pre-ordered this 19!! pound turkey so I thought I'd go ahead and cook it with all the trimmings. I'll do a delivery to my son&family in FC later today. We are all staying away from each other.

  7. We probably would have been alone this year too because of the holiday schedule we have with our kids and in-laws. Our Christmas is the holiday most affected this year. We are group chatting on video with all of our kids today at noon our time. I can't wait! It's wonderful to all be together, if only on video and hopefully next year we'll be together in person with at least some of them.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. We are here alone today hoping to see everyone via Zoom later. Our little circle has been devastated by this virus. My sister's best friend lost her only sibling on Saturday. Tested on Wednesday, gone by Saturday. He was only 55. We aren't going anywhere. Stay safe.

  9. We canceled ours as well. We were supposed to do a combo thanksgiving \christmas event. Instead we are doing a video chat this afternoon. Con: no family to hug and sit around talking. Pro: I stepped out of my box and made an entire thanksgiving meal for the three of us on my own, for the first time.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving! As you know, Canadian Thanksgiving was last month. We stayed home, but that's not unusual for us anymore. There's too much drama in Dave's family, and we don't always see mine (just because of schedule conflicts), but I see my parents almost every week.

We are staying home for Christmas this year, but better to be safe than sorry. Dave's Grandma is 93, and we'd hate for her life to be cut even a month shorter than it otherwise would.

  11. Zoom Thanksgiving beats an ICU Christmas.

  12. Happy Thanksgiving! We zoomed with the youngest daughter and grands...it was good to see them all! :) WE have put so much time in Isolation...we wouldn't want to get the virus now...sure hope the vaccine comes soon. I think Far Guy will get it right away as he is high risk...sure hope so:)

  13. I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, Nancy! Ours was very nice - but we have been doing it on our own for years, since our work schedules before wouldn't give us time to travel anyway. Now we have our own way of celebrating, and it's perfect.

  14. That cartoonist was ahead of her time!
We have a Zoom scheduled for Saturday.
Our Thanksgiving started at 8 a.m. when my mom called to tell me she has Covid.

  15. I had my son over, but we ate outside on the patio at a distance. Not the same as other years. But as I get older, I like less holiday hoopla.
