Getting the Boot

Last week, I had an appointment in Cheyenne and stopped by the airport to get a photo of "the boot" that's on display. Several Wyoming communities use fiberglass objects (bison, horses, bears, etc.),  painted by local artists. as a fund-raiser. The boots in Cheyenne are large (eight foot tall and eight foot from toe to heel) and are placed at various sites around town. More information can be found here.

The Boot at the airport is decorated with various military planes (F.E. Warren AFB is located in Cheyenne).

  1. Amazing--the size alone is stunning! When I lived in NY-the Syracuse area did something like this with horses-they are beautiful to see in local yards!

  4. Now that is something. I've seen the animals, here in Spokane we have bear and moose. The shape of the boot is so realistically made that it would be easy to think it was a real boot from a photo.

  5. I loved seeing that boot when I was in the Cheyenne airport a few years ago. A fun display that gets people interested in the local history.

  7. Pretty cool. We saw painted cow statues when we visited Austria or it might have been Switzerland. It’s fun to find them in cities. New Bern, NC have bears that are representing all sorts of things. Very cute.

  8. It's always so interesting to see statues and sculptures on your travels. Over here we have a giant carrot at Ohakune, and a giant gum boot at Taihape, just to name a couple. Tourists and their cameras/cell phones love this sort of thing to pose in front of.
