Back in Time - Toys with Wheels

I remember two tricycles on the farm: one was red and white and the other a rusty red. They tallied a lot of miles between the barn and the house. The red and white tricycle had a platform between the back wheels, and it was possible to catch a ride by standing on the platform.
Did you have a baby buggy or tricycle?
Oh, both! Memory lane here-my buggy was gold and white; it was a treasure and last forever. The bike was red and white with a platform which my younger brother rode on behind me, laughing in my ear....thank you for sparking that happiness!
ReplyDeleteBoth! We had tons of bikes and buggies being one of three sisters. I was more the bike type and my sisters were always rolling their babies around in little buggies. They weren't as fancy as yours. That would have been a treasure!
ReplyDeleteSo many memories! I had so many dolls as a kid and played with them constantly. I don't specifically remember a buggy though. My Mom had one as a child and she used to dress her cat in doll clothes and wheel it around in her buggy!!
ReplyDeleteAs a child of the 50s, I did have both. I spent hours pushing my baby buggy up and down the block. Often had our old mama cat dressed up in doll clothes in the buggy. She must have like riding in the buggy because I don't remember her fussing about it.
ReplyDeleteI had a tricycle, but I don't think I had it for very long. My brother was two years old and already two-wheeling, and I wanted to do everything he did.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I had a baby buggy. I didn't have many baby dolls and other than my cabbage patch doll, I didn't have much interest in them. I much prefered Barbies.... and my Barbie had a Ferrari!!!!
Well now — I don’t remember a buggy for my dolls but I had wonderful dolls. My grandma gave me two Madame Alexander dolls. One was probably 18” to 20”. The other was smaller but more of a fashion style doll. The very best part is my dolls had matching clothing that my grandma made for me. She had friends who worked in Los Angeles's fashion district and would give her scraps from the factor. So my dolls were dressed to the nines — velvet coats, black pants — maybe satin, silver blue fancy tops. I still have those dolls and clothes and I don’t let my granddaughters play with them. But I still love those dolls. Trike — probably but we moved a lot so we might have only had it when we would have used it, sketchy memory!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo! Cant remember having a baby pram, but I know I had a much loved dolly. Just wish I kept a few more things hen my own children were little, instead of giving them all away.
ReplyDeleteI had a tricycle that sounds just like yours...red and white with a platform in the back. I also had a doll buggy that belonged to my sister before me. I remember wheeling my dolls, AND my puppy with a doll bonnet on his head, all over the yard. I miss those carefree days of childhood. I think children these days don't have nearly as much freedom outside as we did. At least the children I know don't. I think they're missing out.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I sort of remember a red tricycle, but not sure. I never had a baby buggy. but if I'd had one, I bet I would have probably put my "Chatty Cathy" doll in it. Did your parents farm the land where your family lived?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall a tricycle and I never played with dolls very much. I did have a bike:)
