Outside My Door

September 2018
Early September, I saw this rabbit frequently outside my front door. It "hid" under the hedge and under the large pine trees every day for several weeks.

The temperatures have cooled considerably the last two weeks and the trees/plants around town are beautiful dressed in their Autumn colors.

The rabbit's hedge is now filled with red, orange, gold, and green leaves, and the birds are feasting on the berries. The fruit must be intoxicating because the birds sometimes hit the windows or the screen door.

Brenda gave me this wreath several years ago.

Such are the "wild life" happenings outside my new front door.

  3. Our rabbits and turkeys have not been around much the past few days. Maybe the snow has them hunkered down. We are 2 days away from the beginning of pheasant hunting season here, and that's a huge deal for this part of SD. And it appears that this year they'll have beautiful fall weather. The snow is gone and we finally have sunshine and nice temps. But as for fall colors - it's been strange. The ash trees are all naked already, having dropped their leaves before they even turned gold. And the maples are still mostly green with just the beginnings of reds and golds.

  4. Most of our trees have turned colors and a lot of them have dropped their leaves. I’m looking at a bright red one outside our patio right now. It is gorgeous. We’ve been getting into the 20s at night but this week has been in the 60s during the day. I love this weather! Blessings, Betsy

  5. That rabbit is too cute. I giggled a bit imagining the "drunk" birds flying into your house. Your new digs have some great entertainment in nature for sure!

  6. Your thinking on the intoxicating berries may be spot on Nancy. We had several birds THUMP into our window last week. That has never happened before. WOw you are smart. Everyone was ok, and flew off right away

  7. Here in New Zealand rabbits are noxious pests and can be shot as they do a lot of damage to farmland. Mind you rabbits were introduced here by the early settlers and there are no natural predators like foxes to keep the numbers in check

  8. Very cute wreath bow. I made a few of those ... mine came in a complete kit.

  9. Bunnies can be cute but also annoying. We haven't seen any around our house but have seen them in the neighborhood. (Who knows what happens at night around here!) Our temps are finally acting like fall. But I've seen very few trees that have turned to the beautiful fall color. Mostly the trees look tired and are dropping their leaves with little colorful fanfare. Bummer.

  10. How nice to see the rabbit right outside your door! (one of the drawbacks of so many cats is I don't see too many rabbits in my front yard!). The Fall colors are spectacular!

  11. You could feed that bunny! I think all of ours are gone since we have a couple of fox:(
