Autumn Color

bright berries
Laramie, WY
October 2018
Warmer temperatures have returned this week, and I hope Indian Summer will settle in for a bit. I'm not ready for cold, ice, and snow to take up residence for several months.

I dropped by the credit union on Thursday, and a tree with the bright berries caught my eye. The tree had numerous berry clusters - an unexpected burst of Autumn Color.

A cold front zapped most of Wyoming with bitter cold, rain, ice, snow, and fog on October 13 & 14, 2018. As a result, many trees in Laramie have dry, brown leaves clinging to their branches, and the leaves rattle in the wind. I wonder if the leaves will eventually fall.

  1. Such a vibrant red!! It turned cold here...now it is in the 40's and I say cold...nothing like you have up there!

  2. I hate it when it gets cold too fast and the leaves turn to yuck. We had a snow on top of leaves we hadn't raked and it was such a mess to get them up in the spring. We went from summer to winter here too. It's in the 30's right now. I hope some of that warm weather comes this way because I'm not ready for it being so cold so soon either.

  3. Aren't they pretty. Just like you wouldn't like the summer here, I wouldn't like the winter there.

  4. Such pretty berries.

Our fall colors are pretty muted this year. Not sure what my potted plants are going to look like by tomorrow. I think we dipped below freezing last night.

  6. We have lots of those berries hanging around here too. Lots and lots of them. Everyone here says it means that it’s going to be a hard winter. I sure hope they’re wrong. We have had absolutely gorgeous temperatures here this week also. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

We were driving home through Wyoming during the cold snap last weekend. It was bitter cold! For a girl who had been running around in flip-flops just two days before, it was a shock! Have a lovely day my friend.

  7. At first I thought the berries were Mountain Ash but then I remembered those are orange not this cherry red color! So I looked them up-Russian Hawthorn and they will be pretty flowering trees in the Spring!! I'm glad you are getting Autumn weather again!

  9. Love those berries! Fletch snipped a few branches with berries from our neighbor's hedge and we have them in a vase on the table. So pretty!

  12. Nice touch of color in a drab autumn. Our trees have been pretty blah. We have a holly that will get nice berries but not til later. The dogwoods around us are beautiful in the spring with pink or white flowers that bloom late spring after the ornamental cherries and pears. Then late fall the dogwoods get bright red berries. I am a big fan of dogwoods and Japanese maples.
