Suggestions via Texts

sneak peek of QOV #149
Friday afternoon, I pulled 3.5 inch squares from my scrap fabric bin and began matching them to create nine-patch blocks. Before the afternoon was over, I had sewn 43 nine-patch blocks, and the 3.5 inch scrap bin was empty - I had officially found the bottom of the bin.

I asked my "quilt consultants," Marilyn and Brenda, what color of sashing to use, and both said, "Dark." I pulled a couple of black fabrics, and via text, they both selected the same one - a black tone on tone.

Do you snap photos of your projects and ask others for advice via text messages?

  1. That is really pretty!

I've texted pictures of WIPs (both stitching and knitting) and sent to a friend...but haven't asked for advice or suggestions.

  3. Very pretty. It has a "rich" feeling about it.

I do sometimes text fabric choices to friends. But I'm more likely to take things with me to my card group or to coffee with friends. They are always willing to give advice.

  6. ! Nine patch quilts are some of my absolute favorites. Yours is beautiful. I don’t really have any text buddies who know much about knitting. So no, I have never texted for advice.

  12. Oh my, do I ever. I frequently request advice from my friend Sharon. She has a good eye and lots of creative ideas. She does the same with me too. And like Mary I ask blog readers sometimes too.

  14. Oh, what a beautiful use of scraps! Isn't it a good feeling to empty a bin? I love a good nine-patch quilt and your sashing is perfect. In answer to your question, yes. My co-worker / ranch wife/ friend / quilter and I often shoot each other texts asking for advice. It's often very helpful to have another set of eyes and point of view when you are in the midst of making a decision. Three of my co-workers are quilters and we are always bringing in projects and asking each other questions. It's funny to watch the cattle buyers pop their heads over our shoulders and comment on what we are discussing.
