Show & Tell

LeAnn's T-shirt rug
October 2018
LeAnn has been crocheting on this T-shirt rug for several weeks at the Crochet/Knit group. She is keeping all the knots on the backside of the rug. I love all the colors. LeAnn said she would continue until the red bag shown bottom left is empty.

Several years ago, I knit a small rug with T-shirt "yarn" and huge needles. I used the rug at the door to collect damp shoes. I haven't seen it, so I wonder if it survived the move.

Julie's crocheted entrelac blanket
October 2018
Julie's entrelac blanket was the hit of the day. Everyone gathered around to see the process. I've seen entrelac that was knit, but this was the first time I'd seen crocheted entrelac.

Have you knit or crochet with T-shirt yarn or knit or crochet entrelac?

  1. No, none of the above. I have crocheted rugs using old sheets. Actually, several of them. I have one in my bathroom and one by the garage door and have been using them for almost 20 years. They show no signs of wear! I have also given several away. I had never heard of crochet entrelac. It’s very pretty.

  3. I didn't know you could crochet with t-shirt fabrics. Very colorful rug and should be sturdy.

  5. I crocheted a red and black entrelac scarf the first part of this year. I'd have to check the guilds Facebook to see if there is a picture.

  6. No, I haven't, but it sure intrigues me.

I did once knit with ripped cotton fabric. It was a "thing" very briefly in the 80s. My step-mother-in-law loved the finished sweater so I gave it to her. It was way too "stiff" for me to enjoy wearing, but she seemed to like it.

  7. I've made fabric-braided rugs, crochet rugs from plastic grocery bags, and fabric-covered clothesline rugs. I really liked the upcycled plastic bag rugs for outside when it rains. The only problem was, it didn't last as long as the others.
I love the crochet entrelac. Are there a lot of ends to weave in with that method?

  8. Nancy, I love the Lee Ann's rug and the repurpose theory. I have not tried this, but won't rule it out for the future!

  9. I have not done any of that, but I love Lee Ann's rug. I did knit a rug that was going to fits be a bathmat, then a rug for Colin's room and it ended up in our room in front of Fletch's bureau. It's very slippery on the hardwood floor and I'm always nervous about vacuuming too close to it and have it get sucked up - lol - great excuse not to vacuum I think.

  10. Oh, yes, I have crocheted tshirt rugs! I grew up with them crocheted by my Grandma so it seemed right to make them for my kids! I don't quite see the same patterning on the crochet entrelac-I will have to watch the video to appreciate it.

  11. Haven't made a tee shirt rug, but I have knitted one with mostly selvedges and other strips and use it in front of the washing machine in my laundry. The pattern was from Crazymom blog a couple of years ago

  12. I don't crochet, and I haven't knit with t-shirt yarn, but it looks pretty cool.
