Marilyn's Shawl

Marilyn's Shawl
October 2018
I started on this project for Marilyn in June or July when one of the ladies (Val) in the Needlers group wanted to try the pattern. Even though it was a knit along, I got distracted with packing and moving, so Val finished her shawl weeks ago.  Somewhere along the line, I unintentionally "altered" the pattern, and the back increases are off (thankfully, I was consistent in the alteration).

Even though the pattern calls for the shawl to be knit to fall at the wrist, I knit it to fall just in the crook of the elbow. That shorter length makes it more comfortable to wear around the house or to cover shoulders while sitting in a chair.

Yarn: Encore Colorspun (Plymouth Yarn)
Color #7718 - Drifting  (worsted weight)
I used three skeins for this short version
                (300 grams OR 600 yards )

Needles:  US size 11

Pattern: Utilitarian Faroese Shawl by Melissa Hahn (Ravelry link)
Melissa also has a crochet version of this shawl - contact her

  1. It turned out just beautiful Nancy. I have about 22 inche completed on my shawl from our car trip, but it will be set aside for this week. I started a sweater for Piper last night hoping to get it done this week, but I have my doubts. I think I’ll be too busy playing. Ha! Blessings, Betsy

  2. After reading your first post regarding this project I decided to start one. Ripped out a couple of times but am on my way now. I also plan to make the shorter version as I will be donating mine to a long term care facility.

  7. How very lovely! A group down here knits and crochets prayer shawls for the wives of super ill patients. I love seeing them.

  8. Great finish Nancy. Wow. That will be a well loved shawl. I love the fit of that style shawl. No need for shawl pins of knotting the knitting. Good job

  9. How lovely and cozy!!!! Having a shawl around your shoulders is just the thing for a chilly day. It's still so hot and humid here I've got the AC cranked down to 73. I swear I am going to melt.

  11. That looks like a great shawl -- the kind that actually stays on your shoulders. I'll have to put that in my queue!
