Cowboy Joe Socks

women's size 10
October 2017
Ellen (The Ellen Report) sent me a surprise package filled with yarn. I knew immediately that the brown and gold yarn would soon become a pair of socks. I'm a University of Wyoming alum, and the bold brown and gold yarn was pleading to become Cowboy Joe socks.

I often caught myself humming the popular UW fight song as I knit. "He always sings raggy music to his cattle as he swings back and forward in his saddle on a horse . . ."
Cowboy Joe (a shetland pony)runs the field  with his handlers after each UW
Cowboy score. The tradition started in the 1950s and is still practiced today

  2. Isn't it fun how colors or sounds or smells bring back memories? I love the Cowboy Joe tradition. Do they do something similar for basketball?

  3. Oh those socks are perfection on so many levels Nancy! We have two mini ponies at the Barn and I love them

  4. Perfect for us Wyomingites! I notice you use the heel flap. Have you ever tried the fish lips method. I bought the instructions on ravelry but found them to be pretty intimidating! So I still use the heel flaps also. I've knitted probably 20 set of socks in the last year! One of my favorite things to knit - thanks to you.

  7. Great socks...with a great story. A horse figures prominently at my university too... Traveler runs around the LA Coliseum after every score. He is ridden by a Trojan. I have yet to make a pair of socks in honor of him! But they would either be white for the horse or cardinal and gold for the school colors. Enjoyed this post.
