Thick & Thin Socks
Noro socks October 2017 |
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden Sock Solo
40% wool, 25% silk, 25% nylon, 10% mohair
Color #S1
Needles: US size 2
Stitch count: 60 stitches
Note: I wound the skein of yarn into two balls. The ball for the sock shown on the left has more "thick" plied sections (typical for Noro yarn) than the one of the right. The left sock is visibly thicker and the knitting is heavier. I am curious if the socks will feel different as I wear them.
Do you like knitting with a yarn that has an uneven ply?
I'm interested to see how you like the fit/wear.
ReplyDeleteI have used oddly plied yarn but used small needles and find they fit and feel fine. These sure are pretty!
I guess I'm not very observant; I hadn't thought about the fact that some yarn is unevenly plied.
ReplyDeleteThe only hand knit socks I own are very thick - mostly cotton yarn I think - and not comfortable with shoes. But I love just wearing them around the house to keep my feet warm.
ReplyDeleteI didn't enjoy knitting with Noro for that reason. But, I have to say, the socks wore VERY well.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to see how the colors play out in Noro, but it was very scratchy on the hands. I don't think I would have liked it around my neck as a shawl.
I always love socks. I cast on for a pair this weekend. Feels great to be back to socks. Uneven yarn I don't do well with.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of uneven ply for socks doesn't sit will with me, maybe another accessory, even mitts seems okay. I think it's a foot thing. I love this neutral color of sock!
ReplyDeleteI bet you will never notice if one sock is thinner.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you knitted the ribbing all the way to the heel. I will have to try that idea. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletewhat sock pattern do you use?
ReplyDeleteSusan Q. - I would love to send you the pattern that I use for socks, but you are no-reply. Send an email with the request (address is in the top right column) and I will send you a copy.
