Thrifty Knitting
five dishcloths from thrifted yarn September 2016 |
In the craft section, I found four bags of cotton yarn: two bags each containing a bit over 3 ounces of blue variegated yarn. I was able to knit three cloths from the yarn in one bag and will easily get that many from the second bag. Six dishcloths for $3.00 - a good bargain. Another bag contained 3 ounces of solid blue, and the other solid yellow. The cost of the solid cotton yarn was under $3 - another good bargain.
Do you frequent thrift shops for crafting supplies?
Good haul! I also look for craft supplies or anything I can create with. I have found everything from crayons and markers to sketchpads and yarn. And since it is cheaper it makes it even better.
ReplyDeleteI don't often go to thrift shops (or Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc...), but I have NEVER, EVER found ANYTHING crafty. I am amazed at some of the really good stuff other people have found.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand .........I've donated a lot. Guess I could buy back my own stuff. LOL
I buy many things at my local thrift shop in fact I just went yesterday and came home with a great cookbook and a wonderful pair of shoes:)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you hit the jackpot! I have only rarely found anything knitting or sewing related at any thrift shop.
ReplyDeleteWe have a thrift store... I go once in awhile... I'm going to check out the yarn....winter is coming:)
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I have bought yarn at a thrift store and I love to shop Salvation Army for old sweaters that are put together in a way that lets me reclaim the yarn. It's like found money!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find/deal! Also I love how the dishcloths turned out. That is a great photo.
ReplyDeleteI dont. Maybe I should!!!! Your dishcloths are darling
ReplyDeleteI've found a bit of cashmere at the thrift one time. Just enough to make a small hat for a friend. Love your dishcloths. That is actually one of my favorite patterns with lots of ridges for scrubbing power! :-)

I've had some very happy finds of pure cotton at the op shops. A particularly memorable buy was some Italian cotton. It was superb and I did the same - made dish cloths!
ReplyDeleteI never have much luck finding yarn at Thrift Shops. But it looks like you did great! :)
ReplyDeleteI love checking out the thrift stores here, sometimes I find something, sometimes I leave empty handed.
ReplyDeleteHum, I don't need to check the Thrift stores for yarn -- I just need to hit the basement to see what I have on hand! And, I really need to knit more often but winter is coming and that is when I tend to knit more. Too hot in the summer unless I'm working on socks that don't take a lot of lap room.
