Binding Handwork

Hand-tacking QOV binding
June 2014
Four Quilts of Valor recently arrived in my mailbox from the volunteer longarm quilters in Colorado, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Three of them graciously agreed to sew the binding on one side for me. I did the other one thanks to the cheat sheet I got from Ann a couple of years ago, and I am feeling more confident with the process. Thanks, Ann.

The quilt in the photo is Amazing America. I finished the tacking Saturday night, laundered it on Sunday, and took it and three others (Home of the Brave, Let Freedom Ring, and Braided Dreams) to the Wyoming QOV coordinator on Monday.

  1. I enjoyed catching up on your blog Nancy. Are those hair clips? If so, what a great idea! I've been busy quilting and playing with a new toy I got, which is a Grace Machine Quilting frame and a Pfaff Hobby 1200 Grand Quilter, they are used but they are "new" to me. I had to take the machine in for servicing something wasn't quite right with the bobbin casing, so I won't be playing with it for a while :(

  5. It must be such fun to deliver those finished quilts and know they are going on to deserving recipients. It have the fabric and pattern set aside to make a QOV, but it always gets set aside for other projects.

  7. Say, I like the way you used that hair clip! What a good tool for holding binding in place. It's so wonderful all you gals are making these quilts.

  8. Nancy, I've not left you a comment for some time, but I do read your blog about every day. I just wanted to say Thank YOU for all you do for QOVF. Your State Coordinator has been working hard to "grow" QOV in Wyo!

  10. Beautiful quilt! Good idea to use the hair clip to secure the edges. My daughter uses them for lots of things, including bags in the kitchen. I use several sizes of bulldog clips.
