Foreign Friday

Wat Traimit

The temple (Wat Traimit) which houses the Golden Buddha has been rebuilt since the tour I took in 1979. The building then was somewhat nondescript, yet a bit ornate.

As seen in this photo, the new building is by far more elaborate.

The solid gold Buddha can be seen in this post.

  3. Wow. Talk about a makeover. From a row house look to a TRULY ornate temple.

  5. I think what amazes me about these buildings is how intricate the work is. They did it without all the computer programmed plans and power tools that we have today.

  6. Wow, the new building is huge! Probably better for viewing such a large statue.

I like the blue and gold detail on the old building.

  7. It's incredible but I can't believe they put that building on the same footprint as the old temple. Did they have to clear a whole block to build it? I wonder if they used any (or all) of the beautiful decorations from the original building.
