Inching Along

twining on the patio
during a Sunday FaceTime call
September 2021

Sunday, I worked on the rug I started a couple of years ago. I’ve moved the frame in and out of the closet for months to get fabric from the stash. Since I didn’t have a quilt project started, I decided to twine during the weekly FaceTime call with my sister and niece.

The weather has been gorgeous this week and the slight breeze has cleared the air of smoke. It was quite pleasant to be outside. I managed to add three inches of weft to the rug, and about 2.5 inches need to be added before the rug can be removed from the frame.

I prefer to twine outside because it can be messy with lint and strings coming off of the weft fabric strips.

  1. How great to be able to enjoy the great outdoors while doing your project. It is a perfect setting.

  2. It has to be a huge relief to have clear air and comfortable temps again for a few days. That looks like a lovely place to sit outside to be creative - and chat with loved ones on Facetime.

  3. What a nice place to work/play! Glad your air has cleared. I worry about my little brother in Boulder - biking and hiking in poor air conditions....Your rug is really looking nice Nancy.

  5. That is exactly why I've been bugging The Mister to screen in a porch for me. So many of my projects are just too linty for in the house. I don't want to be carding wool inside anymore and it seems the bugs have taken over outside. Your twining project is just so lovely. I can't believe how big it is already.

  6. Such a beautiful rug. Isn't it nice to be outside again. Rain came in and scoured the air in Spokane the day before we arrived last week so it was beautiful. More smoke now though. It's supposed to cool off here later in the week. I'm looking forward to being outside more.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. I remember that rug! Good for you to bring it out and "almost" finish it. I bet you can finish it off on Sunday if you FaceTime. We are having more moderate weather -- at least it's going into the 60s overnight not staying in the mid 70s.
