Fall Color

small indication of Fall
September 2021

Subtle signs of Fall are visible all over town. Trees are gradually starting to show color, but trees in the mountains are passed peak color. Temperatures have been glorious - cool nights and mid to high 70s during the day. Of course, those trends can disappear quickly. I certainly hope Fall will last much longer than it did last year.

I rarely decorate for the seasons other than the wreath on my front door, the outdoor “barn quilt,” and a decorative house flag. Do you decorate your home’s entry way for the seasons?

  1. Our trees are just starting to turn - but there's still a lot of green. I have a pretty purple maple at the side of the house, but I'm very sad to learn that in fall the leaves just turn brown and fall off - it's not very pretty. Though it's nice in summer!

At the townhouse, I'd put up a wreath, and decorate my welcome sign. All that stuff is still packed away - though I probably should do a little decorating for Hallowe'en!

  2. Our house is covered in spider webs, the critters are covered in fleas and I have a continuous headache from the chilly damp so yes.....fall is on the way. I always look forward to cooler weather and always forget the misery it brings until a good frost which is later and later every year it seems.
I do change the wreath on the front door to honor the season but I gave up on everything else. It gets eaten up by whatever happens by in the middle of the night.

  3. The trees are still green here and it's supposed to be in the 90's for the next several days before dropping back to 80's. We had a glorious week of 70's last week. I loved it. Windows wide open for the first time since April.
I've been putting a hanging decoration on the front door. I don't have an island anymore for my crocheted garlands and I'm still trying to figure out where I can put them. I got rid of a LOT of old decorations and would like to get some new, a little at a time.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. I do like the pops of red leaves the best! Yes, I like to decorate my front door area for the seasons--which are very subtle here so I think I need the decorations to remind me!

  5. I do still decorate for the seasons, but on a much smaller scale than in the past. We're having similar lovely fall weather although today and tomorrow are supposed to be back into the 90s. And the trees are beginning to show some fall color too.

  7. I have my wreath next to the door and my flags. That is enough for me!

  8. The cross stitch pictures in the entryway change from "generic" to autumn themed. The big metal pumpkin goes on the table and autumn/halloween cross stitch towels show up in the kitchen. On Oct. 1 the Halloween decor will be sprinkled around.

I don't put anything outside ..... at least not yet. We've been digging up some overgrown parts of the front "garden" and I want to have a good think about what should go in there (if anything).

My autumn/Halloween decor is subtle, but I like it.

As for the leaves .................the black walnut is almost all yellow and dropping leaves (and walnuts) very quickly. There is a hint of color in the trees down Cedar Hill Road in front of our house, but not much yet.
