Winter QAL - Hour 3

four rows sewn together
Clue #3
November 2019
The Winter QAL Mystery is starting to take shape. Last week's clue involved sewing four rows of the quilt top together. I didn't anticipate this design, and now I wonder how the rest of the HSTs will be used.

I've used the living room floor for a design area until last week. I found a large, new, flannel-back table cloth at Goodwill for $1. A few push pins near the ceiling were used to hang the table cloth; now, I don't have to crawl around on the floor to lay out quilt blocks.  It's not technically a design wall, but for apartment living, it is the next best thing.

  1. I think you are just too clever to think of that. Hope it works great for you.

  2. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. A quilt retreat house I go to uses flannel backed tablecloths like the one you found for design walls and they work really great. When they get full of threads and the fabric doesn't stick to it anymore they will replace them.

  3. I've used a flannel backed tablecloth before as well and it worked well. It's a big improvement over crawling on the floor at our age!
It'll be fun to see where Alycia's mystery goes next. I really like your fabric choices for this one.

  5. I did that over at Dad's when we were working on a design and I miss having it. I don't have any wall space here-darn these open space houses. I hate crawling around on the floor.

  6. I am wondering too how the rest of this is going together. I have my weekly clues printed out and laying with the fabrics I had pulled. We'll see when/if I get to this one. Your new design wall should work perfectly. Crawling around on the floor just gets harder to do all the time. In all honesty - it's getting back up that is so hard lately.

  7. That is brilliant! We don't have many walls here as I'm in the same situation as Debbie with the open concept house.

  10. This is interesting so far--is it the bottom, top or middle?!!!!
Great idea for the design wall--I used just that for years and years! Sure IS better than crawling or bending over to the floor!
