Statue of Liberty holiday cross-stitch stitched July 1986 |
Counted cross-stitch was my craft of choice in the 1980s and 90s. A few holiday pieces are framed and hanging in my apartment. The holiday Statue of Liberty design commemorated her Centennial. The pattern was published in a craft magazine, and I stitched it on 22 count navy Aida cloth in July 1986.

She is one of three holiday pieces I stitched on 22 count cloth.

holiday wreath stitched in 1992 |
The second piece is a holiday wreath. I had planned to stitch a wreath for each season, but for some reason that did not happen.

I haven't done any counted cross-stitch in years. I enjoy it, but my eyes aren't what they used to be.
Oh, Nancy - those are beautiful! I too was an avid cross-stitcher then, but I don;t know that I ever tackled a project on 22 count Aida cloth! I still have a few pieces I would love to stitch.
ReplyDeleteWow! 22 count! I'm sure I didn't do 22 count anything. But somehow I started Theo's Christmas ornament on either 16 or 18 count. It's going to be a very small ornament. And, since I didn't realize how small the count was I did as directed for 14 ct. -- I used 3 strands of floss. Yea, it is definitely a dense amount of floss for the size of the cloth. But I am almost done so no going back. Heck, I need to have it done in 4.5 days! Thanks for sharing your beautiful pieces.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful. I preferred to use 12 or 14 count Aida when I was doing a lot of counted cross stitch, also in the 1980s. Last year I started a Christmas ornament done on a dark 22 count and I gave up as I was having trouble seeing it.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to do some cross stitch but it tries my patience. These are beautiful...
ReplyDeleteWow! I think the smallest I've ever gone down to is 18 count!
ReplyDeleteThose are really pretty! I’ve only done counted cross stitch once and liked it but just never really got into it. Seeing what you have done makes me wish I had.
ReplyDeleteBoth pieces are really lovely Nancy. I especially love the wreath (because - Cardinal!!). I've sort of been itching to get back to some counted cross stitch. can't work on Aida cloth - my eyes don't like it, but I'm able to work on linen with no problem.
ReplyDeleteThose were the years that I did counted cross stitch all of the time too! I have some absolutely gorgeous pieces, but most I gave to my mother-in-law. Both pieces you show here are lovely, but I went back and looked at the one that you linked to, and, oh my goodness! I simply adore that project. I just attempted to start a counted cross stitch project for a friend‘s 25th anniversary. I ordered the kit from Amazon and it had almost 200 colors! After over 30 hours in total of working on it over the last several weeks, you can hardly tell I’ve stitched anything. I think my days of stitching such complicated projects are over. These old eyes just ain’t what they used to be! I still like smaller projects though. Thanks for sharing with us today. I so enjoy this craft. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteWow that ruler really helps me see how TINy those stitches are. Beautiful work Nancy
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gallery of cross-stitching! Just beautiful.
ReplyDeletethey are beautiful pieces, 22 count that is so small, I used to cross stitch a long time ago:)
ReplyDeleteI too had to let the counted cross stitch go. My eyes just couldn't keep the stitch count right. Your's are beautiful, and I don't think I ever did anything smaller than 18. Miss Liberty is amazing!
