Binding Frenzy

cutting off excess backing and batting
June 2018
Saturday, my sewing machine was humming: I had four Quilts of Valor that needed binding. I prepare the binding when the quilt is sent to the longarmer, so when the quilts are returned, I trim off the excess backing and batting and sew the binding on both sides.

I always launder the quilts with a color catcher before sending them to the QOV coordinator for distribution.

  1. You're smart to get the binding cut while the quilts are being quilted...that way no excuses when they come back - lol. That's a pretty stack of quilts.

  9. Very smart idea to have the binding waiting when they come back and also using a color catcher. I probably wouldn’t of thought of either one.

  12. You are steps ahead of me with the binding made and waiting. Sometimes I have the fabric pulled and waiting with the quilt — but not always. Then I have to scurry to find a) the original fabric or b) any fabric that matches. I should start paying more attention!

  13. I love binding. It's my favorite part! Nothing to think about just lots of mindless stitching.
