Vegetable Popularity

I thought this infograph on the most popular vegetable in each state was interesting. I have to agree that potatoes are definitely a popular vegetable in Wyoming - as in "Steak and Potatoes."
I can't believe that broccoli is popular in so many states and that only one state (Idaho) has peas as a popular veggie.
Do you think the vegetable selected to represent your state is correct?
I know broccoli is a favorite of my two guys! We like it raw or cooked! Very fun infograph you've posted!!!
ReplyDeleteBroccoli sounds about right for Maryland but I might have also guessed corn on the cob. It's a must to go with your steamed crabs.
ReplyDeleteBroccoli works for me in PA...but, like you, I'm surprised at how many states show broccoli. I was wondering about tomatoes...but then remembered that, technically, they are a fruit.
ReplyDeleteI think squash would be right, it grows easily here.
ReplyDeleteCucumbers for New Mexico? I think NOT! Green Chile is king!
ReplyDeleteIn the winter? Yeah, I'd say broccoli is probably the favorite. But when August rolls around Pennsylvania is all about Silver Queen corn picked fresh that day! (Or maybe Jersey tomatoes. Although technically tomatoes are a fruit.)
ReplyDeleteI don't think broccoli is right for Tennessee, I think okra or tomatoes is more like it.
ReplyDeleteFun post! The carrots surprised me, and now I'm wondering whether there's a similar map for fruits.
ReplyDeleteI love love love our corn grown locally. So YES ! Wisconsin is correct for me!
ReplyDeleteI live in Montana, right next to what I consider to be the Potato Capital of the World - Idaho, so I guess that makes some sense. What's funny is that Idaho's veggie is peas! Guess they get their fill of potatoes while growing and harvesting them.
ReplyDeleteI’m with Judy. The carrots surprised me for Washington. I would have thought potatoes. The broccoli is a real surprise. I never would have guessed that. Fun map.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I would have thought Oregon would have been kale or lettuce, or maybe corn. I like broccoli, but I don't think of it as our most popular veggie.
ReplyDeleteI like broccoli but I like corn, beans, carrots and peas better:)
ReplyDeleteI think broccoli is a good choice for Oregon as most restaurants seem to serve it with their dinner entrees. I like it too.. Teresa from Oregon. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeletethat is neat! Though i think at least one state should have asparagus!
ReplyDeleteI’ll take any of those veggies! In western Canada, it seems the popular veggie in the last year or two has been brussels sprouts ... YUK! They’re in all the restaurants and grocery stores (both fresh and frozen). Please ... just give me some potatoes, peas, corn, broccoli, carrots, or anything other than those disgusting ‘little cabbages’ ... LLLOL!
ReplyDeleteWait. Where is cauliflower? Or lettuce? Or artichoke? That would be my favorite. We’ll along with broccoli. I notice this info was put together by Green Giant which makes me wonder if it’s only about canned and frozen veggies. It’s a fun way to show info. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWisconsin is definitely a corn state. My husband was a corn breeder before he retired, but he only did feed corn.
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting! I love broccoli but rarely eat corn. And I live in Washington state but would not have voted for carrots.
