Summer Socks

short-cuffed summer socks
women's size 10
June 2016
I wear hand-knit socks year round, but my summer socks have short cuffs and are knit with a wool/cotton blend. This yarn has been in my stash for several years, so I don't know if it is still available. I'm still wearing the socks I knit years ago out of this brand of yarn, and they wash and wear very well.

Pattern: basic sock pattern with a 2" cuff.

Stitch count: 64 sts

Needles: US size 2  -  16" circulars

Yarn: Opal Cotton 2010 - Color #3021
           (38% superwash wool, 32% polyamid, 30% cotton)

  1. I'm a fan of Opal, though I didn't know they made a cotton blend—perfect for summer.

  2. I love Opal. I've never seen the cotton blend one though. It looks like it works up VERY nicely!

  3. I have used Opal a lot but never the cotton yarn. I love cotton socks and have mostly used Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Cotton. I would like to try the Opal! I wear socks all summer too. AC chills me.

  4. I almost always knit short cuffs. I have heavy calves and so short cuffs are the easiest solution. LOVE your socks Nancy. SOme socks just wear and wear so well.

  5. I love short cuff socks. It's too warm where I live now to wear my wool socks for very long in the winter (I imagine they are going to last a long, long time) but I make the short cuffs to wear with tennis shoes a lot.

  6. Very pretty socks. The only time I wear socks in warm weather is when I wear my tennis shoes. I'm a flip flop kind of gal I guess.

  7. I love the color of the socks. I haven't picked up the needles in so long...sigh.

  8. Ha! After first reading this post I remembered Opal and noticed I had a skein of it in a tub with other sock weight yarn. The label is all in German though -- but it did have translation for the fibers -- virgin wool and polyamide. What the heck is that? It is a beautiful green, brown and cream. Eventually it will make great socks.
