Back in Time - Frontier Airlines

A few weeks ago, I posted two photos taken at a 1947 airplane exhibition in Riverton, WY.  Today's photos were taken in the early to mid-1950s of a newly formed airline - Frontier Airlines.

From this photo, obviously taken by my Mom, it appears that those visiting the airport that day were allowed to enter the plane, which makes me wonder if rides were also given that day. If so, it would have been my first airplane ride.

  1. Flew on this plane in around 1961 from Arizona to Montana. I was 13 years old, had never flown before and off to visit my Grandmother.

  2. Free rides would have been fun and probably a good way to encourage people to travel by air...and to choose their airline.

  3. I didn't realize Frontier airlines had been around that long. Cool photos.

  4. A unique snapshot of a historical moment. Very interesting when you think about family members taking the time from their busy lives to take the kids to see this.

  5. Just look at that plane. Can you believe we actually flew in them. I remember flying in one very much like the one in your pictures, from Yuma AZ to Phoenix. Bump, bump, bump and I didn't think it was too bad--then. Wonderful memories!

  7. Great Pictures -- makes me want to hunt down the pictures I have somewhere of my family standing on the runway of Dulles Airport out in the boonies. We often took Sunday drives and ended up where the new Dulles Airport was being built. Good memories.
