Middle Fork Falls Sinks Canyon State Park near Lander, WY Paul (brother-in-law), Maria (Dwight's wife), Stephanie (great niece), Christian (great nephew), Dwight (nephew), Bruce (nephew) and Katie (Bruce's wife). I was there, honest: I was the photographer July 1999 |
I've hiked to the Middle Fork Falls in Sinks Canyon three times - twice when I was in college and the final time with some family members at the 1999 family reunion camping trip in Worthen Meadows. I doubt my knees would allow me to make the hike yet another time.
According to the
Sinks Canyon State Park website,
the hike is 3 miles round trip: The first ¾ mile of the hike is easy, the second ¾ is moderate (rocky trail/elevation gain). The trail is rocky and narrow in places, is open and unshaded. Hikers will gain over 660 feet of elevation over the course of the mile and a half hike. The elevation of the falls is 7800 feet.
Wow, that's a beautiful place! Looks like there might have been some fishing along the way, too.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I use to hike too and sometimes I miss it. This looks like a great one...
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty spot! I doubt that I could do the up and down on that hike either:(
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place!! There are so many things that I would love to do again but my body says, "NO!" It's sad because I would really love to sit on a stump in the mountains and listen to the water rush over the rocks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty spot. I don't know if I could make it either these days - even just 3 miles - but love having memories of places like this!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to do that hike. It sounds like it stays interesting the whole way.
ReplyDeleteThat photo just screams SUMMER! I love everything about it especially that you hiked it. Thanks for the truth about the difficulty. Everyone makes hikes sound so easy...ha! I always fear they are underestimating difficulty
ReplyDeleteAns that's why we're never IN the photos ...we're always snapping the photos! That looks like an amazing hiking area - wish it were closer!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to hike that. What a beautiful place. There is so much to see in the United States that I could never see it all in my lifetime.
