Back in Time - Visiting the Fair

My mother loved touring the animal barns at the County Fair, and of course, some of the animals appreciated the rubs and scratches she gave them.

Mom must have had something special planned for the evening because she has her hair in curlers. (Remember the brush curlers that were secured with pink pins?) She is shown in the following photo with two grandchildren, my sister Marilyn's children. They came to Wyoming during the summer to work on Grandma Rosie's farm for a few years.

The County Fair starts next week, and I'll make the circuit through the animal barns offering scratches and ear rubs - the cycle continues.

Do you visit the animal barns when you go to the fair?

  1. That is the FIRST place I head. I love the goats, cows and sheep!!!

Unfortunately, I don't get to many county fairs anymore. I really should make the extra effort to get to the one in Osceola County. I'm guessing they have a pretty big animal contingent. Lots of cattle ranches there.

  3. I love this picture of your mom! My mom still uses those rollers when she washes her hair. LOL. We're a fair family - or at least we were. Now that the kids are grown we aren't as involved although I did just receive a phone call yesterday and was asked to judge the indoor sewing exhibits.

  4. as a kid we never missed the county fair and often went to the Minnesota State Fair too. But in South Dakota most counties don't really have a faiar anymore. But I did enjoy going through the animal barns at the state fair.

  7. What a wonderful picture! I used those brush rollers and my daughters always seemed to have one or two stuck in their bangs. When you go to the fair, give the animals a pat or two for me. I love to pat the sheep and especially alpaca.
