Sixteen Cases

Even though I made 16 presentation cases (pillowcases) for Quilt of Valor last weekend, the impact on my fabric stash is barely noticeable. Some of the cases are obviously more feminine than patriotic, but they can still be used to protect the quilts for storage. (Quilts should never be stored in plastic bags because the fabric needs to breathe.)

The pattern information can be found in this post.

  3. Such a good idea to give them a storage case along with the quilt. 16 is lot of pillowcases. Good for you!

  4. Actually, yes you did make a dent in your fabric stash. That's at least 16 YRDS of fabric gone to a good cause. I made up a few kits to go to our guild pillowcase day that we have in November or so. We usually sew 200+ cases for Konker Cancer and other local charities. Unfortuantely, I get squirrelly with my fabric and don't want to give some of it up. And, I also tend to buy smaller amounts. Sigh! Good job with the cases. I do like that hot dog/burrito method.

  5. Beautiful….How big is each case unfolded?

  6. Valuable information! Thank you Nancy. I am setting about getting cloth bags for my quilts right away. I have one that I would like to hang on the wall. Do you think that makes a quilt deteriorate faster?

  7. Wow...16 cases?? That's impressive! Nice finishes for such a great cause. I can't imagine, however, that this didn't make a big ol' dent in your stash.

  8. Wow, the cases are so impressive. I'm glad you told us not to store the quilts in plastic. I could imagine my mother (who has made almost all of my quilts) discovering me breaking this rule on a visit and getting in loads of trouble.

  9. You think of everything! How wonderful that the quilts are presented in handmade storage bags too.

  10. I didn't know that about storage bags. Thanks for the info.

  11. Those will make wonderful presentation cases. 16?! Surely there is a dent somewhere! :) I know that your generosity will be greatly appreciated. I love that tutorial and I have more than a few to stitch up as well.
