Brain Freeze - Camping Style

Anyone who has "roughed it" knows that after a few days of no showers just having clean hair is refreshing.
The campground did not have running water in the bathrooms, but the camping site we had was near the water pump. These photos show how pump had to be turned with two hands. The water coming out of that pump was ice cold, even in August.

That first blast of cold water much have been a shocker.
ReplyDeleteThat was a chilling experience, I'm sure, but you seem to have happy memories of it. We used to camp a lot and I loved it!
ReplyDeleteOh lawsy! I'm sitting in 90 degree weather and I just got a CHILL! LOL
ReplyDeleteBut, I bet your hair looked nice and shiny. They say your final rinse should be with cold water. ;-)
Oy.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the pain but you can only go for so long without washing at least your hair! I think I might have tried to warm that water on a camp fire. When I was young we would camp in the San Diego mountains. There was running water in the bathrooms and I can still remember the cold water. My mother used to say, "Go take a duck bath," as in duck in and duck out fast before you freeze.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun family you have!!! I love campers. I had a bad neck freeze from a mister misty at the dairy queen about an hour ago….OUCH pain pain
ReplyDeleteCool pump! Bet you all felt better! We used to have a solar shower for camping...worked fine ..on cloudy days not so much:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cool family vacation. Ha! It's true though, nothing like a clean head of hair after a few days of roughing it!
ReplyDeleteBet everyone had a good time. I did a lot of this type of camping as a Girl Scout, but as an adult it just wasn't a fun experience. Guess I'm too much of a wimpy city girl anymore.
ReplyDeleteOh I can feel that cold water!!! But feeling clean is maybe worth it.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of you girls roughing it! Ha. I know that feeling of washing in ice cold water. It's a bit painful...but worth it. At least after you warm up again!!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I don't camp anymore. I am too fond of climate control and indoor plumbing.
ReplyDeleteDid that once, talk about a major headache from the cold water. Next time I heated the water, from then on we only camped where we had showers and now I'm happy to say we don't camp. My days of putting on my boots and walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night, crawling back into the tent....done and DONE!
