Alma Mater
Alma Mater is probably the strangest Oddball Baby Blanket on which I have knit. I admit that some Oddball blankets cause me to wonder why knitters chose the particular colors for their sections; however, the person who started Alma Mater specifically wanted knitters to add the colors of their alma mater (high school or college).
Personally, I think this is not a very attractive blanket, and I doubt that much can be done to make it more appealing.
I chose to add the colors of my high school (red and white) because University of Wyoming gold and brown just didn't seem appropriate.
Alma Mater is a good example of a bad Oddball.

It's a neat theme, but coming from Trinity's gold and purple... Hem. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteI agree....
ReplyDeleteI hate to agree with you on this, but it is not too pretty.....yet...perhaps something will redeem it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks warm and that is all that matters. I have a treasured quilt that my uncle made (a Singer repairman who loved to sew). He used leftover pieces of suiting material so it is black, blue, gray and brown. Ugly! Still, I love it and use it everyday. It's the love sewn/knit into it that counts!
ReplyDeleteWell I can't get over ALL that you knit...do you knit in the summer? I use to knit a lot more than I do...actually it has been years since I really sat and made something nice (the last thing was a pair of slipper for hubby....he wears them...but is embarrassing that I made them!!) LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, Nancy...you are cracking me up! I often wonder about people's color choices and I really can't stand when things don't match! Like Katherine said though, it will be warm for a little baby and that's what matters.
ReplyDeleteIt think it looks fine. It's just more busy than normal with all the different stripes. Truly an "oddball" blanket.
ReplyDeletei am so perplexed everyone can see this but me!!! Oh well I will have to take everyones word for it!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's a lot like all the jelly roll quilts everyone is making - I don't like them and that's saying something since I like most scrappy quilts.
