Another view of the rice fields in China: an earlier post can be seen here.

  1. I wonder if they have trouble with snakes in the house, seeing how the houses are right in the fields.

  2. I was also surprised to see the water just surrounding the houses. I was thinking about how damp everything in the houses must be.

  3. Fascinating perspective looking down on the rice fields. I wonder like Sara, if they have trouble with dampness. Mold? In Oregon it's a real problem on the west coast.

  4. I'll be honest rice field photos are something that really stir me culturally and I'm about as Westernized as they come. Rice has been such an integral part of my life and childhood and growing up. My mother had a saying, "for every grain of rice you waste the farmer cries a tear."

My Polish/Italian grandfather's way of saying it was, "take all you want but eat all you take.

Anyhow, thanks. It's a good feel for a Friday and I'm making Thai food tonight so it's super fitting. My way of throwing in a little culture back at the homestead.

  8. That looks like a very drab life though .......I'm guessing they spend most of the time just doing the "work" of the day. Not much room for entertainment or fun.

  9. Interesting photo! Are mosquitoes an issue there?
