Guacamayo Socks

Guacamayo socks
April 2019
I had hoped to have this pair of socks finished by Easter, but unfortunately, that will probably not happen.

This yarn is a delight to knit - soft and springy, and the colors are fun, too. The brand is "new to me," and if it passes two more tests (in the laundry), I will look for it again in a yarn shop.

In my opinion, sock-worthy yarn must:
       •  be fun to knit
       •  not pill when worn or laundered
       •  not bloom when laundered

Yarn: Araucania Yarn - Huasco Sock (Color # 1006 Guacamayo)
          75% superwah wool, 25% polyamide

Needles: US size 2

Stitch count: 64 stitches

What is your criteria for "sock-worthy" yarn?

  1. Can't be itchy and can't be splitty. Love the colors in the yarn you are using - that will be a FUN pair of socks.

  2. That yarn looks so cool! What exactly do you mean y bloom? Is it a wool yarn or a cotton or blend of??? I lik it.

  3. I pretty much go for your criteria, but it must also wear well - nothing worse than getting a hole, one month in!

  4. In the past I didn't have very high standards. What that means is, I have some sock yarn in my stash that really isn't very good for socks.

    My standards now are:

    1. The color must really catch my eye

    2. Be a high twist yarn

    3. Have a bit of nylon (although sometimes I break this rule)

    4. Not be like anything else I have in my stash

  5. Gorgeous! I have used that brand yarn but not their sock line!
It does look like a fun knit! You could get them done in a few days if nothing else was required of you! lol

  6. Oh, How I love the color of these socks! The colors look just like the name: Guacamayo = Macaw.

  7. I like the socks AND your criteria. I also like to have nylon in my socks to make them hard-wearing.

  8. Fun color! I, too, want to have some nylon in sock yarn for wearability.

  9. I agree with all of your sock non-negotiables. I hate the ones that get "crispy" after you wash them.

  10. I usually cast on 64 as well. It has to has some bounce as you say to it! My sock criteria: I almost always insist my socks are one long continuous strand of yarn. It is more magical that way. I get upset with any breakage in the yarn or knots along the way. Lorna's Laces does bloom so you wouldn't like it, but I do anyhow. I would not use Noro for socks. I know some do. But Im not a big Noro fan. And I wouldn't use gradients because they wouldn't match at all. I love : Wonderland yarns, Malabrigo Rios, but it is pricey. and Lost City knits made a great yarn in Oklahoma. I'll have to look for it again.
